“Our new favorite Charleston spot!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

This was our very first time to Harbourview Inn, but I can assure you it won't be our last. It is our new favorite spot in Charleston. We celebrated our honeymoon at another hotel in Charleston 17 yrs. ago, but we decided to take SniqueAway's recommendation and book here. It far exceeded our expectations in almost every aspect. From the little details, like cool room keys, stylish letterhead, daily weather postcards, complimentary wine every evening and cookies at bedtime to the extreme, like breakfast delivered daily right to the privacy of your room, cozy rooms and comfy Tempurpedic beds. The location is excellent, and this is a nice additional part of our stay, but the customer service was outstanding...employees actually smiled and made you feel like they loved their jobs and their hotel.

Room Tip: Even though we were on the street side and first floor and could hear the chatter of folks on the st...

“Wonderful hotel with great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

A relatively new hotel located in a great location overlooking the harbour of Charleston. We had a harbour view room, which is highly recommended. We had a balcony and watched the sailboats and cruise ships pass by in front of us.

Service at this hotel is first rate, from check in to check out. Very friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are very comfortable with all the modern amenities one would need. The bed had one of the most comfortable matresses we had ever slept on.

Many nice touches with this hotel. They serve tea in the afternoon, wine and assorted goodies at 5 pm and fresh baked cookies and milk at 9 pm, all complimentary. Coffee and hot chocolate are always available. The complimentary breakfast was also nice, and can be served in your room, in the reception area in front of a fireplace, or up on the roof with a beautiful view of the city and harbour. Many wonderful restaurants located within walking distance. The river/harbour walk passes right in front of the hotel and the walk going toward the sea is marvelous. You will see many old mansions, several dating to the 18th century. There is also a fantastic water fountain located adjacent to the hotel.

The hotel was a little expensive but a good value for the money. Parking is $18 per day. My wife and I would definitely stay at this hotel again if the opportunity arises. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Some of the rooms are adjacent to a large meeting room where people assemble to talk, enjoy the wine...

“Great Location, Great Staff, Great Beds!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

This is our fourth extended stay at the Harbourview Inn, Charleston S.C. and it continues to deserve high praise. The location is perfect for walking anywhere in old Charleston and their parking rate is terrific. The staff is professional and at your beck and call for anything you need. The room rate includes a terrific continental breakfast (three options) delivered to your room or on the rooftop garden. Every night there's a wine tasting and late night cookies and milk! But it's all about the fantastic king size poster bed, huge room and lovely bathroom that makes the place really comfortable. Many of Charleston's Inns and hotels are in old buildings (not get me wrong that can be fun) but the rooms are small and sometimes borderline funky.
Harbourview gives you lots for your room rate and it is so close to historic houses, world class restaurants and art galleries, museums, etc. If you want to check out the new upper King shopping and restaurant district...it's just a pedi-cab away and the hotel will call one for you.

Room Tip: Ask for the 4th floor if you are getting a view room or just a standard room. Our standard on the 4...

“It's nice - but next time I'd try a different hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

The location is excellent - walking distance to most of what you might want to see - but in fairness most of the Inns in Charleston are walking distance to everything you might want to see. The valet service is one of the best I have seen. The folks at the desk were good. Overall there was nothing "bad" or unpleasant.

So why would I try somewhere else next time, because everything feels cramped. The lobby is tiny, the hallways - it's an old building and it's not a huge problem - but it was enough that I noticed it. The real issue was the room. It's nicely appointed - but pretty dim. That's fine for a romantic weekend - not so much for business travel.

I would also point out that there is a bit of a scam in the room description. The website says king rooms - which I assumed meant a king bed. Not here - here that means one bed - a double. You have a choice of one double or two doubles. You do not have an option to get a king sized bed. If I had known that I would have gotten a double since those rooms were larger. As it was the room felt cramped.

As I think about it, maybe the desk person didn't tell me the truth when I pointed out that I reserved a king and she said they don't actually have king sized beds - I didn't make a fuss or ask for a manager. I stayed 3 nights so it wasn't an issue of no king neds tonight etc. I'll leave it this way - that's what she said when I questioned the room. If the hotel posts a response that says they do in fact have king sized beds - then I would say (1) apparently the desk clerks are prone to saying whatever lie will get you to leave them alone and (2) call the hotel and get the name and cell phone number of whoever says they have king beds so you can call him at home when you arrive and are told differently.

We are grateful for your comments regarding your recent stay at the HarbourView Inn. We are glad you enjoyed the location and the staff of the HarbourView Inn. I am saddened that the bedding did not satisfy you 100% and this was not brought to the attention of management. I would have been more than happy to arrange a room move to a room with a king bed for the two remaining nights of your stay due to no king beds being available the first night. I did want to mention that all of the beds in the HarbourView Inn are king and queen size. If you decide to return to Charleston, please contact the hotel directly and we would love the opportunity to accommodate you in the future. Thank you again for your feedback and for choosing the HarbourView Inn.
