“Needs improvement”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2007

Front desk stuff was very rude when we ran into a situation with our reservation. The pool was in poor condition, as if no one had cared to maintain it during the winter (granted, it was still cool weather, but the water was neon green from algae). Room (and lobby) were very smelly. Linens were a bit dated but worked OK. Bathroom was clean and worked fine, but needed regrouting, and tub needed to be repolished; problems were mainly cosmetic. With a little better upkeep, this place wouldn't be as bad.

“DON'T let pictures deceive you. Lost money rather than staying the night.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2007

Pictures on the web made it seem that it sat in the middle of lush green area.
Truth was the pool was slimmy green, grount was in obvious bad shape, and not open for use.

The hotel sits on the MAIN Through fair. The lush area is a good walk behind or across the 5 lane road. Watch both ways...
The side walks were littered with cigarette butts.
The room smelled mushy and the vent over the toilet had not been cleaned in a year.
3 PM in the afternoon guys were on the walkway drinking.
Opted to lose my money than stay there.

BE FOREWARNED.

I as the manager responded to this person in writing offering them a free nights stay when they were back in the area. The Pool was not yet open in May due to the local pool compainies being so far behind on servicing pools to be opened. The vent may have been dusty, which has since been corrected. Our property adjoins the Congaree River, but is on the main highway that goes into historic downtown Columbia. I can not do anything about a guest standing out side his room drinking a cold beer. As long as they are not causing any disturbance, I have no right to ask them not to drink beer.

“Not bad for the price”

We stayed here for 4 nights over Thanksgiving. It's a little worn, but we found it clean, comfortable & affordable. The continental breakfast was a little bit above average. We would stay here again.

“Would not stay here again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 March 2005

This hotel is no longer affiliated with Best Western, and I can see why. It’s now just called the Riverside Inn. This hotel was old and run-down, and it had a dirty feel to it. The bed was hard & the pillow was thin & worn-out. Housekeeping had left an old bar of soap in the shower. There were black spots on the shower tiles. They charged a $1 phone access fee (which isn’t a big deal but they didn’t inform me ahead of time). I definitely would not stay here again.

We have done much to improve our housekeeping staff here at Riverside Inn. I am very sorry about the problems this person had, but our rooms are now inspected daily by our housekeeping supervisor and you would find our rooms to be a good clean place to stay.
