Originally, we were going to book at the Holiday Inn, but that was full, so we had to settle for the Comfort Inn a 100% smoke free hotel. We were greeted by smokers standing out front! As you walked in the front door you are overwhelmed by a cheap air freshener scent in the breezeway apparently an attempt to keep the outside smoking in check.
The front desk staff person was slow and less than happy to have a job. Anyway, the room we received was 319. The elevator floor was dirty and a chip bag had been tossed in the lights above, not a good sign.
On our floor the maid cart was in the middle of the hall so we had to push to out the way to get to our "clean" room. I found the sink slightly dirty with coffee stains in the bowl and the toilet had a urine stain on the bottom of the seat. Obviously she was not worried about her job either.
At this point we had to go to an event so we left to return late that night. When we got back it was very late that night and we were both exhausted. I could not help but then notice more concerns.
In the sitting area the carpet had several red stains in front of the sofa and TV. In the bedroom area the ceiling plaster in one corner was falling off due to a previous water leak. The window heating/air unit had little adjustments and so it was either full blast or off. Finally to top it all off, as my wife pulled back the sheets and found some balled up Kleenex and we kept worrying finding hairs in the bed. We were both freaked out but realized the hotel was full and we were stuck, and it was late!
I decided to take a shower to try to forget all this and even that was unusual in that the bottom of the tub/shower was V shape so standing was awkward and slippery. I kept telling myself it was just one night and we would be ok. I slept maybe four hours but was uncomfortable and seriously was dreaming about bugs biting me! Then I was wide awake two more hours watching the clock having severe hip pain. Finally I couldn’t take it anymore and told my wife we had to go. We left the hotel at 3 a.m.!
I was in pain knowing I was going to have to ride in a car for hours and was not in the mood to talk to anyone about all the poor room conditions or argue about the charge, it was not worth it to me, I just wanted to go! Not surprisingly I had to ring a bell to find someone to hand the key card back to. You can mark this off your list of places to stay.
