First of all, the service by ALL employees at this hotel is unsurpassed in the service area, they are all great. The staff is very polite; always say "hello" with a smile and offer help whenever they see you, quite helpful with all your needs, very professional staff....couldn't ask for better service. I've stayed in 4 star hotels and they don't offer the great service you get here.
The hotel is very clean, each day the room was well cleaned and new towels supplied. The towels were a good plush quality and softer to the touch than most hotels. The rooms are up-to-date, rooms are a nice size, nice size TV with more channels than normally offered in a hotel, good variety to please most. Decent size refrigerator and microwave in each room, with a coffee maker & coffee supplied....these all came in very handy. This hotel is a non-smoking property, which is nice to have a smoke-free smelling room. Should you be a smoker, they offer an outside area for this purpose.
The air conditioning worked very well, and controlled by the thermostat on the wall, which kept the room very comfortable. The bed was firm, but quite comfortable, had no problem sleeping and awakening well rested. Plenty of pillows on the bed, I think there were 5 and they were comfortable. They have a nice blanket and plush comforter/spread on the bed. The only thing adverse about the room, is the coffee table is a little large and can be in the way at times. A couple end tables on each side of the small sofa may work better and free up some space in the room. The shower is good, much better than majority of hotels offer....it actually works well and gives a good spray of water, adjustable spray types too. The hotel has a pool and jacuzzi, but both are indoors and "small."
Breakfast is offered (free, part of your room rate) and is better than the average. They have "make your own" waffles (were very tasty), several flavors of instant oatmeal, several cereals (types for adults and children) with regular and 2% milk, eggs & ham, toast/bagels, small donuts, juices, coffee and of course...grits. I found the food good and well prepared, you won't leave hungry. The staff worked to keep the food filled, the dinning area clean and neat, always looked good. My only comment would be to not have all the butter inside the refrigerator, it's as hard as a rock....can't spread it. But, that's a little issue compared to all the good.
Parking can be a bit tight when the hotel is full occupancy. There are not an over abundance of parking spaces, had to search for a space a few times and only found one left....not sure where people arriving late would park.
There is only one restaurant currently near-by, Golden Corral, which I heard from friends wasn't the best, so didn't try it. However, it is right next door and appeared fairly busy most of the time. There is nothing else currently within walking distance. There is no place to get a beer or cocktail near-by. But, they are about to open a couple new restaurants right across the street, one of them will also serve alcoholic beverages. Be careful drinking and driving in this area, not only is it unsafe....but, there seems to be a police car everywhere you look!!
When these restaurants open, use caution walking across this street....it's pretty dark and the cars are moving pretty fast.
The main problem I had with this hotel is the people arriving for the Marine Corps graduation during the night. These folks are coming to see their love ones graduate...a wonderful achievement and to be proud of. But, they are so NOISY and LOUD and it goes on and on....you can't sleep at all those nights. They start arriving on Wednesday night and stay until Friday. They slam doors all night long, run up and down the hallways hollering....no way to sleep. The noise and door slamming starts up again about 4:30 AM when they start getting up. If you're lucky, you might get about 2 hours sleep! The hotel needs to communicate this to people who check in and place people staying all week or there for work or not part of this group in a separate section to attempt to keep the quiet people in one area and let those making noise keep themselves awake all night. The other problem is they need rubber non-slip mats for inside the tubs. Be careful with their soap, it's rather slippery....slippery like Zest brand....doesn't rinse off easily....so watch your footing inside the tub.
There are no stores close-by, you may wish to plan ahead. However, there is a super Wal-Mart down the road about 1-2 miles; they have a large grocery section, also beer/liquor section along with the normal Wal-Mart merchandise assortment. It comes in handy to get snacks, sodas, beer and foods/fruit for your room. Also a J.C. Penney's store in that area too should you need those type items. You have to really look for any business signs in this part of the country....some stores are well hidden from view by the trees, so stores are not easily seen on some roads....such as the Wal-Mart, you can easily drive right past it.
They offer a nice business center with access to a printer for your airline boarding passes, etc.
(The computer on the right, with the touch screen is NOT hooked up to the printer)
I would recommend this hotel to anyone. It works well for families, couples and business travelers. Overall, I think you'll be pleased with this hotel. If you are in this area for business, suggest you stay a couple extra days and enjoy this beautiful country, good restaurants, historic sights and great sightseeing.
