We arrived on a Wednesday evening at approximately 730pm. When we entered our room, it was dirty. The tables were dirty. You could see where the former tenants had spilled something sticky on them. The carpet was sticky and dirty (we had to throw our socks away because they wouldn't come clean). The bathroom was dirty, including the towel they placed on the edge of the tub. The bed linens were dirty. You could see dried body fluids (to put it nicely). We were so exhausted that we just slept on top of the blankets.
The next morning when we went to the office for the advertised "continental breakfast" we found that there wasn't any coffee (this was @ 730am), there was cereal but no milk, and they had individually wrapped honey buns (the cheap kind). That's it. They also advertise that there is a coffee maker, alarm clock and hair dryer in each room which is a lie. There wasn't.
I told the person at the front desk (whom said that he was the manager) about the problems we had encountered the night before. He stated that "he would personnally make sure that it was taken care of". We gathered all of our trash by the trash can for the cleaning person to remove, made our beds and we left for our day of activities.
When we arrived back at the hotel at about 8pm, we found that the trash had been taken out and the towels were replenished. That was it. The tables were still dirty. The bed linens were still dirty. The bathroom was still dirty and the wash cloth that my son had placed in the soap dish in that shower was still there! The only thing they did was remove the trash, replenished the towels and moved our pillows from one bed to the other (we brought our own pillows from home). Nothing had been cleaned. There was still toothpaste in the sink!
I immediately went to the office an expressed my anger and was told by the elderly lady (she was very pleasant) that she could not leave the desk, but she did at least give us clean bed linens to put on the beds. My family and I changed the linens and I used the soiled washcloth to wipe the edge of the headboards (the amount of dirt was completely unacceptable!). She (the front desk clerk) later called our room and told me to speak to the owner in the morning regarding our experience and she was certain that they would make an adjustment to our bill. Also...my daughter decided to make a bag of microwave popcorn. When popping was completed, she opened the door and cockroaches came out!!
On Friday morning I went to the office and spoke to the owner. I was told that they would give me $10.00 off of our bill. That's it?!?! Needless to say, we cancelled the remainder of our reservation, vacated the premises and stayed at another location down the road for the rest of our stay in Beaufort.
To make matters worse, when I arrived home and checked my credit card statement online, I found that the hotel had charged me for the entire length of the original reservation!! I had to file a discrepancy report with the card company!
I had always heard that the "Best Inn" was considered a nice place to stay. Not in my opinion. I will never stay at one ever again!
