I chose this hotel based on reviews from TripAdvisor. Reviews are mixed; so, I suspect perhaps some rooms are renovated and some are not. The room I was given had a "new" bedspread and curtains but that appeared to be the extent of renovation. The old-style tube-TV worked but was busted with a hole in the top of the cabinet and a crack at the bottom. The AC was unplugged when I arrived in the room. It worked after I plugged it in but smelled terrible. The carpet was filthy with snack chip crumbs and there were cobwebs in the corners of the room. The shower tile grout was cruddy and gross. At one point when I was searching for the ice machine (which I could not find), I came around a corner to find a couple guys smoking pot. They covered pretty well; but, I'm a former cop. They were not fooling me. When searching for the ice machine, I went by the front desk. The door to the office was locked and nobody came when I rang the bell. About 10 minutes later, I went by the office and the male clerk let me in after I knocked on the door. Before that, I stood at the door for about 2 minutes while the clerk glanced up but did not acknowledge my presence. When I asked about the ice machine, dude acted like my asking was a bother. I guess he was more interested in making change for the shady character that was at the front desk. The only good thing about this hotel was its location which is convenient to downtown Beaufort. Also a Jimmmy Johns sandwich shop is nearby. They're pretty good. I had breakfast at the Fryed Green Tomatoes restaurant located next door to the hotel. It was bad. The scrambled eggs were covered with grease, the hash browns were burned and the biscuit was cold. I do not recommend wasting your money at Fryed Green Tomatoes.
I had planned to stay three nights here but left after one night. For about $20 more, I moved to the Hampton Inn which was much much better. Hilton has better standards than Choice-branded hotels.
