This was the second hotel in this chain that we stayed at over the summer.
Mystic, CT is about 40 minutes away from here, and it was well worth the drive, for us, even if we were only going to be in Mystic. But we did want to visit RI, too, so this made it even better.
First, a quick word about our trip and why we chose this location:
When we were searching online, we could not find a clean hotel, with suites, that was completely smoke-free, anywhere closer to Mystic. Our main part of the trip was the Mystic aquarium, and we headed here after the Aquarium clsed for the day. As well, the next day, we took a boat tour around Newport, and the launching area in Qonset, RI was only about 10 minutes from the hotel, which was convenient. After that, we headed back to Mystic for a complimentary return admission (must get tickets stamped on day 1 inside the Aquarium grounds).
Now for the review of the hotel itself:
The first thing I saw when entering the hotel was the pool, enclosed in, as I recall, glass walls, which is just past the reception area and elevator. I suppose it's easier for them to keep an eye on things with the pool right by the reception area, though I thought it was an otherwise odd place to have chosen for the pool.
The receptionist was very friendly and checked us in quickly and efficiently. Since we were traveling with the kids, we ordered a suite with a pull-out sofabed. We took the bedroom, the kids had the living room (separate TVs for each room), and we had a separate dining area, with some counter space for food prep, off of the living room. The room was great and well worth the extra $10-$20 more than a standard room.
Breakfast was nice, including cereal for the kids. I believe they have some boiled eggs, fruit and other items as well, but I don't recall now.
The pool was mostly empty, and even with another small family swimming there at the same time, we had plenty of room to swim with the kids. The pool is noticeably chlorinated, which is good, and there is a semi-open shower as well, in the pool room.
The hotel was kind and accommodated us with our late check-out request, which was very helpful, as traveling with kids takes longer than traveling for either business or as a couple. This gave us time to let the kids sleep a little late after the full day they had the day before and enabled us to then get everyone ready and still eat breakfast in a relaxed manner.
Newport seems to be about a half-hour away, which is not bad at all, though if I were touring Newport only then I might have looked into staying instead in Newport.
Bottom line: It's clean, comfortable, reasonably-priced, smoke-free, has ample free parking up front and the people were friendly. We would definitely go back.
