We stayed here over New Year's weekend 2012 and had a wonderful time. From the moment we arrived, we were treated warmly and professionally by the staff. (I later learned that some of them were graduates of nearby Johnson and Wales' excellent hospitality program which might explain the service!) From the front desk to maintenance to breakfast staff, they were professional, warm, welcoming, accommodating and wonderful.
We had three adults and two children (8 and 13) in our party and we stayed in a two bedroom suite. I caution that the second "bedroom" is not a bedroom with a door that closes but rather a cool loft above the living space (read really great for a teenager but not great if you have a baby to put down early), which is really the only downside of this hotel. The first bedroom, however, is quite private and quiet with a door that closes and en suite bathroom so if you do have a baby to put down early, use that room! The suite was clean and quiet, had two full bathrooms and everything we needed, including a full size refrigerator, dishes, cooking utensils, a coat closet and a dishwasher. The heat was a little challenging to regulate given the two levels (loft was always a little warm) but there was a thermostat on the wall we could easily turn up and down as needed. Would have been nice if you could open the windows in the loft to cool it off if needed.
The fireplace was a real treat. Most Residence Inns have gas fireplaces and this one had a real woodburning fireplace and they sold firelogs (Duraflames) at the front desk. The hotel rightly regulates that you do not put wood into the fireplace, but a Duraflame for each night was lovely.
Breakfast at the hotel was very, very good and had something for everyone. I was able to get hot, fresh coffee early and come back later for breakfast which ranged from hot eggs, sausage, potatoes, bacon, etc to a nice cold buffet with cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, nuts, granola, etc. Plenty of juice and other drinks as well, all included in the price of your room. The breakfast was served in a very clean and well appointed carriage house.
The other real treat was the hotel pool. Although the hot tub was broken the weekend we were there (bummer), the pool was large, WELL HEATED and clean. I have been to so many hotels where the pool is either too hot or too cold and this one was just perfect. We went for two long swims and both time had the pool and pool room (with lounges, tables, a changing room, etc) all to ourselves. The kids LOVED it. We did not use it, but there was a nice small gym off the pool area as well.
The location of the hotel is a little odd - kind of in an industrial park between the airport and the highway, but very well lit, safe, and very convenient to both the airport and the highway (95). We easily got into downtown Providence in 15 minutes and enjoyed the free parking right outside our room at the hotel. Even with this location there are several restaurants and diners within a short drive where you can get a decent, cheap meal, or you can easily grocery shop and get your own food. One night we had pizza delivered from a local place and it was excellent and quick.
Overall I'd give this hotel a very high rating. We really enjoyed our stay and will return.
