“Won't be going back”

Very disappointed. I have stayed in many "budget" hotels/motels that were in better shape & cleaner than this hotel. It started on the way to the room when the hallway had an overpowering smell of air freshener and went downhill from there. Our room looked very run down and didn't feel clean with cobwebs hanging, ripped rugs, big divits in the floor under the rug and peeling wallpaper. In order to feel comfortable using the whirlpool tub we had to run out and get our own cleaning supplies because it had a black residue in it and there was no way I was going anywhere near it until WE cleaned it. It was a nice touch to leave small bottles of champagne in the fridge BUT the glasses left in the room were sticky and dirty. We also stripped the bedspread off immediately because it was stained and didn't look like it had been washed in quite a while (only to find a blanket with holes in it). To top it off we had to go to the front desk to get our own replacement roll of toilet paper because the housekeeping staff did not leave a roll despite it being almost empty. One of the times we went to the front desk to ask a question on our way out to town staff was too busy having an arguement inside the office to even notice us standing at the desk - very unprofessional! As others have mentioned, we were awakened very early (6:30 AM on a weekend!) by people slamming doors and yelling in the hallways. So much for a relaxing anniversary weekend away with my husband!!

The one highlight of the weekend was how comfortable the bed was. The temperpedic beds were one of the most comfortable hotel beds I have ever slept in. Actually even more comfortable than my bed at home.

With a good cleaning, attention to detail and a little upgrading this hotel could be nice again but we won't be back to find out. Many other hotels that are less expensive that are a lot nicer.

Room Tip: Find another hotel!!

“Don't listen to the negative reviews”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

First off- if you are snooty or over the top and expecting something more like the Ritz... move along. But if you are a budget conscious family or couple wanting to spend a romantic wknd together then this is your place. It is in MIDDLETOWN- not Newport- but it's only 10 mins away. All around us there are stores like Walmart, tjmaxx, Applebees and so fourth so don't expect to be surrounded by wealth. The guy at the front desk was nice. I didnt like how they left at 5- but he DID give us his number if we needed anything after that. We were REALLY impressed with the rooms, overall. This area is mostly filled with motels so remember- you get what you pay for. We got a luxury room with the Romance Package. In our full-sized fridge, there was champagne. Next to that was a large jacuzzi, which we enjoyed VERY much. Nice flat screen TVs, Tempurpedic bed, massage chair, spacious room... More than you'd expect from a regular hotel room. We loved our stay. I can only speak about OUR room and experience... but I kind of feel like Newport attracts over-the-top, snooty, whiny ppl that will never be satisfied by "average." But if you are a hard working, appreciative person- you may love the charm and romance this place has to offer. I would DEFINETLY come back. I've stayed at their sister property in North Stonington, CT and love that place even more. Give it a try!!

“scary”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

I was at this hotel on new years, there was a lot of kids and people running around . the front desk person said there was a private party going on . She was very kind, because she put us in the part of Hotel were there were no children, and I thanked for for that. But we were in and out all night and there was a heavy set man who was yelling at some guests saying he wanted respect and he was the manager, he had some type of a problem himself. he just kept yelling at people, if he was the manager he should not treat guests like that. The front desk person looked shocked at the way he was acting. later we called front desk after 12 and got no answer I guess the person on call was out partying. we needed some towels and I remember the lady at front desk asked me if we needed anything please let her know But we waited to late to ask. all in all not bad stay but they need help because after 12 you can't get anybody, and it was scary with nobody at the front desk after 12. and all these people around.

Room Tip: just make sure you have everything you need before they close fron desk cause after they close you a...

“Misled in Middletown”

My girlfriend and I stayed here new years eve weekend of 2011. Let me start off by saying this place has a deceptive name, it's 15 minutes outside of Newport and the Spa looked gross from the outside... They make it seem like its a romantic getaway in the brochure and on the website, but in reality the place just didnt feel clean and unless your idea of romance is wearing a wetsuit into the whirlpool, I'd go someplace else. The sign is ghetto, we almost turned around and drove in the other direction after seeing that thing..Other issues: the whole place needs a makeover as everything is old and outdated, no water pressure in the shower and the water doesn't get very hot, I left the shower feeling cold and with shampoo still in my hair. It was loud and noisy, and there seemed to be a ton of random children wandering the hallways and screaming. It's also dark and dreary and it's really not a fantastic deal as some people have said, this shack is pretty expensive.

On the positive side: the gym was spacious and had updated equipment and the lady at reception was pleasant enough.

My advice is to go elsewhere and stay closer to Newport.

“A little disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

Price was good for the room, but the pool was closed and I think we were the only ones in the hotel that night?? We needed more pillows but there was no one at the front desk except a phone that said to dial for assistance? We requested more pillows, yet they never came :(
No staff was on during the night that we could see, and it kind of reminded us of "The Shinning" (lol). On the bright side they have an awesome "fitness" room, so many machines to work out on
we all got a complete work out!!!
Breakfast was so-so, but not bad.
Would we go again??? Probably not, but it was definitely an experience to talk about!
