Little Compton reminds you of that picture perfect Vermont village, only near the beach! Referred to as the "Farmcoast", this area is truly a best kept secret. The main beach is called South Shore beach, but don't spread your blanket near the parking area. Instead, walk past the parking area to the much more appealing Goosewing Beach, which is wide, sandy, gradually sloped crescent beach. We went on a Saturday, and while there were people there, the beach was gloriously uncroweded. Great surf too! Oh, and Harmony Home is a great home base for exploring the area. The owners rent one room attached to their home, plus a self catering cottage on the grounds of their small farm. We stayed in the main room, which has its own private entrance with a porch, a queen bed, a sitting area, and a private bath. You're 2 miles from the beach and about 3 from Little Compton common. The gracious hosts are a wealth of the knowledge about the area. A tasty continental breakfast is served breakfast in bed style. It's a perfect getaway, much less hastle than Block Island or Cape Cod. Newport is also an easy 20 mile drive.
