Immediately on arrival we received a very warm welcome from Diane the owner who immediately made us feel very much at ease and at home. Diane who has such an friendly and enthusiastic personality could not do enough for us, this included lending us an eze-pass to use on the toll bridge to Newport, providing us with discounted tickets to visit up to three of the splendid Newport Mansions, booking dinner reservations for us and even giving us a 30% discount voucher for the excellent Trattoria Simpatico just around the corner.
The house itself, located only 2 minutes walk from the East Bay Pier, is a real delight full of interesting knickknacks and clocks. Guests have full use of a lounge as well as their own rooms. Our room was the Narragansett King room, a beautiful, spacious and light corner bedroom with windows on two sides. The windows also had black-out blinds should you not wish to woken by the early morning sunrise. The rooms were tastefully furnished with armchairs, flat screen TV, fridge, etc. The bed was extremely comfortable with high quality bedding. Also provided were good quality robes, iron, ironing board, hairdryer and a welcoming decanter of sherry. The bathroom was spacious and well equipped. In the hallway was a Koenig coffee maker with a good assortment of coffees, chocolate and teas as well as some seasonal snacks.
The scrumptious breakfasts were served in a sunny and airy conservatory (although in colder weather we understand they are served in a more formal dining room). They consisted of a baked good of some kind (muffin, fruit scone) freshly made by Diane, followed by a fruit plate and concluded by a hot entrée (Day 1-pumpkin pancakes, sausage & maple syrup – Day 2- almond French toast and bacon), plus of course juice, coffee tea etc..
Our two-day stay was a total delight with Diane and her husband Paul doing everything possible to make our visit so enjoyable. We would have no hesitation recommending East Bay, located on the beautiful island of Jamestown and an ideal base for visiting the attractions of the more crowded, expensive and busy Newport only a 10 minute drive away
