Stayed there so we could be located central to beaches and etc...Room was dated,slanted floors, tiny bathroom and musty smell. Big bucks for the room. We stayed there August of 2010. When weather turned we felt traped in a musty cage. Left a day early and was glad to be out of that room. Too much for the condition. Good place for a bunch of drunks to crash and sleep it off.......lived and learned

I stayed with my family at the Water Street Inn this summer and had what can only be described as an awful experience. I believe I recall when this hotel had its own check in desk, but now shadily it is lumped in with the harbor side down the street. First off the rooms are insanely expensive for the quality they possess. The floor was literally slanted in our room, there was no air conditioning, there was no soap for the bathroom sink, and the TV had 10 fuzzy channel (you don't go to block island for TV but just making a point). Now the staff. Both nights we came back moderately late from being out enjoying the nightlife and at the top of the stairs were two teenagers who immediately tell us we are loud entering and that they are security. Then they followed us up and watched us enter our room, which made us all feel incredibly invaded and creeped out. The same thing happened the next night, with three different teenage looking aged european/russian boys. Finally, the harbor side desk staff were very short and clearly don't quite understand the phrase "customer service". They put forth a very pompous "we don't need you, you need us" attitude and I can assure you as a column writer, I will make sure people are aware of my experience. I will never stay at that place if I go to block island again, I'd rather sleep on the beach with the seagulls. I hope this helps.

The good: the rooms are a little sparse but we didn't really plan on spending a lot of time in it so no big deal. As long as you aren't in one of the front rooms, you have a window a/c unit which keeps you cool during the hot summer days. It looks like they make at least a minimal effort to spruce the rooms up. There are newer laminate floors throughout. The paint was fairly fresh. The bathrooms had been updated with standard Home Depot vanities and hardware.

The bad: the receptionist is a jerk. He's the guy you get almost every time you call the 800 number. He has zero customer service abilities and shouldn't be the face of the hotel. The room wasn't ready, even though we didn't arrive until 1:30pm. That's not a big deal but we were told we would be called when the room was ready and they couldn't be bothered to follow through on that promise. We simply caught a late lunch and picked up our key after lunch. The bath tub was a little scummy. My wife's allergies were bothering her so I pulled the filter on the air conditioner and it was DISGUSTING. It had clearly NEVER been cleaned. Ever. The laminate floor was put down over buckled and uneven flooring.

I'm trying to be as fair as I can be knowing full well we probably won't be staying here again. There are too many other wonderful places on the island to check out.

Loved the location and the view of the harbor. Great bar and restaurant on 1st floor. Walked to everything. Open windows offered the great ocene breeze and the late night island banter and laughter of which we we part! Can't wait to get back
