I stayed with my family at the Water Street Inn this summer and had what can only be described as an awful experience. I believe I recall when this hotel had its own check in desk, but now shadily it is lumped in with the harbor side down the street. First off the rooms are insanely expensive for the quality they possess. The floor was literally slanted in our room, there was no air conditioning, there was no soap for the bathroom sink, and the TV had 10 fuzzy channel (you don't go to block island for TV but just making a point). Now the staff. Both nights we came back moderately late from being out enjoying the nightlife and at the top of the stairs were two teenagers who immediately tell us we are loud entering and that they are security. Then they followed us up and watched us enter our room, which made us all feel incredibly invaded and creeped out. The same thing happened the next night, with three different teenage looking aged european/russian boys. Finally, the harbor side desk staff were very short and clearly don't quite understand the phrase "customer service". They put forth a very pompous "we don't need you, you need us" attitude and I can assure you as a column writer, I will make sure people are aware of my experience. I will never stay at that place if I go to block island again, I'd rather sleep on the beach with the seagulls. I hope this helps.

Thank you for your helpful critique of your recent stay at the Water Street Inn. Our summer night watchmen are students from abroad in their mid twenties. We have taken your experience to heart and given them strict guidelines on following out the tasks of their job while not making guests feel uncomfortable. They are on duty to ensure that the folks visiting who would like a peaceful stay are not disturbed by others. Again, we apologize if this made you feel uncomfortable in any way and we have taken measures to remedy the way the night watchmen conduct themselves.

To address your customer service complaint, we take this very seriously as well. We do need you, the visitor, in order to function as a tourism based business. Your opinions and suggestions matter greatly to us. We train our front desk employees to treat each guest with respect and hospitality. After reading your review we have made a point of reiterating this with our staff.
