The first time we visited Block Island was for a day trip for exploration. We took one of their taxi tours and we got a favorable impression. The grassy dunes and Mohegan Bluffs with sandy beaches and light houses are picturesque. This is a nature lovers island.
The second time we traveled to this destination we were able to book a great room with ocean views. We booked our room through the Menises Hotel which is a part of the 1661 Inn. Our room was at the Anchor House Inn. The properties have a nice working relationship with one another. The price includes a champagne brunch the next morning at the 1661 Inn.
A two hour drive and half an hour on the hi-speed ferry and a quick walk up the hill and through town and we arrived early. The check-in was as agreed upon at 2:00PM.
The room was clean with a large private bath. There is a lounge area for guests. The feel is cozy and is much like a bed and breakfast.
The kayaking was the highlight of the trip. The Pond and Beyond is excellent for those wishing to take photos of wild life. We returned to town for some shopping and caught the 4:30pm ferry home.We left feeling very refreshed.
