“LOVE IT!”

Of course, if you're been to Block Island before you know that it truly is another world. That said, the hotel standards are completely different from back on the mainland. I would never tolerate a room with no television or air conditioning elsewhere, but the quaint, back to basics style at the hotel manisses and it's other properties are perfect for Block Island.! The best part is the free buffet breakfast at the 1661 Inn which has one of the most gorgeous views on the island - the free wine and cheese hour is also a plus. I've stayed at many, many properties on B.I. but prefer to stay at a Manisses property.

“Great View and Breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

We stayed at the 1661 Inn. The people are very pleasant and helpful. The champagne buffet breakfast was absolutely wonderful! Lots to choose from and a few different items were available each day. My husband absolutely loved the baked blue fish. This is hard to find, and one of the reasons we chose the Inn. The muffins were also very tasty. Also nice was the wine and nibbles included each afternoon. The view from the dining room and our room in the "Guest House" was fabulous. Only complaint is that our room was small, 'The Sprague", decor is in need of updating -- wallpaper peeling and bathroom a little dingy and small. The rate for off season was a good value -- but peak season rates are a bit pricey. Would go back again, but try a different room.

“A Well Run Inn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

We found the Inn to be well run and meeting its advertised expectations. The room was interesting and ready for guests (even with a pitcher of ice waiting for us), and the service was entirely satisfactory. The breakfast was a pleasant experience, and included a large salmon lying on a tray in front of a few bottles of champagne. In the afternoon, wine and cheese was served to guests - a delightful interlude before dinner. Nothing on Block Island comes cheap, but we thought we got good value for the money.

“Beautiful properties”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

We stayed in the Tosh at the 1661 Inn. The balcony view is wonderful. This is my second time and my husbands first and he was still surprised with the edibles. We went after Labor Day and the timing was perfect. The rates were better when we called after getting off of the ferry. I can't say enough about the breakfast. The one problem staying in the 1661 Inn is the oder of the food that lingers in the hotel itself. I didn't like it. When I stayed in the Hotel Manisses I did not experience any smell of the restaurant - if they have one there. The little farm is an extra treat next door to the Manisses.

“Good value but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011

We just returned from Block Island and stayed at the Hotel Manisses in the Antionette room. We love block island and have been there 5 other times but this is the first at this hotel. Pros: Good location. Near shops, restaurants, beaches. Wine and cheese hour at the 1661 Inn has the best views of the ocean. The complimentary breakfast was fantastic. Cons: The Antoinette room has it's own entrance off the front porch. If anyone is sitting on the porch talking, it echoes in the room. It is also very close to the street. So any loud vehicle going by will also be heard through the windows. The first night we heard music until midnight. I was assuming it was from a local club. Further investigation the following day found it out to be people working in the kitchen of the hotel restaurant blasting music which vibrated our room. I reported it to the front desk and the manager said someone staying there a few nights ago reported the same thing but couldn't find the source. Overall: Not a bad place for the price. But there is no view from the hotel. If you stay there, try a 2nd or 3rd floor away from the street. If price isn't a worry, try the 1661 Inn which has nice rooms overlooking the ocean.

Room Tip: Try 2nd or 3rd floor room in the back. Rooms facing the street will hear the traffic.
