“Big indoor/outdoor pool and onsite restaurant...otherwise just OK”

This hotel is decent. It's clean. It's convenient to the WalMart and movie theater. It has a large indoor pool that's connected to an outdoor one. They do have a restaurant onsite and the breakfast is pretty good. All in all, I wouldn't say it's a four star experience - but you don't have to pay a 4 star price. My son loves the pool area!

Room Tip: As I recall, they don't have an elevator, so if you have trouble with steps, make sure you get a...

Greetings Trip Advisor Visitors!
Thank you for the compliments on our hotel, our breakfast and pool(s) and our service. As you've read in our other reviews, no - we arent the newest hotel in the area - but what we do have are great people who really care about you and your stay. We have been taking care of people for over 3 decades now and have built a firm background on meeting and exceeding guests needs. Thanks for sharing the compliments - and we will be right here, ready to serve you in the future when you need us - without the 4 star prices.

“Great as usual”

My gf and I decided to come back here after I have had numerous great experiences here. This has not changed! I booked the room with a parlor for the same price as a regular room. This is literally two rooms! Everything was great and the bed and shower is still awesome. I understand that this hotel is under new ownership at the end of the year, I hope all staff and management continue to work here, as I cannot see anything major that needs to be changed.

“Whats so bad anyway?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

I have stayed at this hotel in the past and didnt find it bad at all. I havent been there in a while and to read these reviews, one would think its a hole in the wall. I stayed there over Christmas, a time when if something is bound to go wrong, it should - but there were no issues, no staff who were rude, I didnt see it as dirty or anything at all. Old? Sure, but hotels get older every day, its not in disrepair and isnt neglected. The reviews make it sound like a complete dump - now, try some of the other brands, super 8, motel 6, red roof, and others in york and, sure, maybe not so good, but I think people are slamming this hotel a little unfairly. If you want a comofrtable bed, good rate and nice people who remember your name (they remembered mine, but then I do actually talk to the staff and ask them how they are so Im not just 1 in 1,000 faces they see), then I dont see the problem. I think we have too many 'experts' and 'bloggers' out there inflating their sense of importance by hurting hotels by setting an impossible standard. Dont expect the Ritz, that this hotel isnt, but really - if you want that, wouldnt you stay somewhere else anyway? its a good place, I like it, my company likes it, and we wouldnt choose anywhere else. Dont judge a book by its cover.
I too travel 66% of the year, Ive stayed in some holes - this just isnt.

Greetings Trip Advisor Guests!
My very best wishes to all of you as 2011 comes to a close and my hopes for all of you to have a safe and enjoyable new year.
The staff and I are very appreciative of your nice comments about what our is and what it is not. Yes, we know we arent the Ritz Carlton, but we think we provide a degree of service that is on par with what the Ritz tries to do, but with our own flavor and style.
I hope you continue staying with us and look forward to serving your needs again real soon!

“Who Says Older Hotels Cant Deliver”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011
1

I travel about 200 nights out of the year. Right now I am in the business center of the Holiday Inn York- the quiet one on the west side of town. No car traffic noise here, so a peaceful nights sleep is all but assured.
This is a full service hotel - which basically means it has a chef who cooks food, versus the eggs in a bucket so many limited service hotels have. No day-old-donuts here.
I had a basic room, comfortable bed, desk, tv (not flat screen yet though - come on guys it makes you look older than you are) but no big deal - if I stayed at hotels ONLY for TV's Id be one weirdo posting a review - though people slam hotels over that stuff, I dont.
Price? You cant beat it. $85 I paid to stay here. its $150 plus at the new hotels - homewood, courtyard, hampton, etc - so lets recap, no noise, comfortable bed, food cooked by a chef and a rate as good as I was paying here in the late 90's?
Yes - 2 story, yes no elevator, yes its brick. So what? How does that impact you when you are on the inside anyway? Staffing are great. Dont pay attention to those reviews, all places have that one bad apple here and there - and I was in the banquet rooms, restaurant, bar, etc and never met one. Housekeepers were bending over backwards to help me (got lost) and I met the manager. Ive read the reviews where he says 'ask for me' so guess what? I did. He came out and shook my hand - the posts he posts here are real - actually came out!
So - good price, value is there, good staff - its a no brainer.
Holiday Inn York - keep up the good work, all renovations do is jack up the price anyway. I like my hotels comfortable and clean, and on that front, you are doing what I need you to.
Thanks,
Jim McDoogle

Room Tip: 180 rooms, 90 or so on the first floor so dont worry about an elevator.

Greetings Trip Advisor Guests!
Thank you for taking the time to share your opinion on our hotel with others. We have had a dry spell of responses recently and I was glad to see a new posting.
I know many of you who read our comments in response to these postings hear my say how appreciative we are, and I hope you can understand we are laser focused on doing one or two things well as opposed to all things partially good. We believe that service and value are our two top benefits for anyone who stays with us. Wether traveling for business, pleasure, vacation, reunion, tournament, dog show, car show, Harley week, etc - there are many reasons you may find yourself in York, and it is our pleasure to serve as your home away from home.
Mr. McDoogle, thank you for taking time to post your nice comments about us. We are working on the TV's. promise! We hope to have many new things to share with you in 2012. Some will come early, some in summer and some not until the end of the year, but one thing is for sure, the service and value we always have offered will be there for you, anytime you need us.

“Very comfortable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

I had to go to a seminar in York, PA, so I drove up (from DC) and stayed here. I booked through Hotwire.com with "unpublished price" of $70. I think the going rate is about $120.

The location was great for my needs. The hotel has a huge parking lot and is kind of by itself on a service road, but within 5 miles/5 minutes drive there is: TGIFridays, Ruby Tuesdays, Olive Garden, a diner, a movie theatre, and Toys/Kids R Us. A little farther down Route 30 there are fast food restaurants galore.

I arrived at the hotel around 7 pm, and checked in immediantly. They had originally booked me and my co-worker for a room with a King-size bed and a queen-size pull-out. We requested to switch to a room with 2 double beds and there was no problem. The receptionist handed us a nifty map where she circled our room and pointed out the on-site restaurant and lounge (bar) We were on the first floor right outside the lobby (room 118) On the other side of the map was the hotels location on the streets so when we asked where to go for dinner, she pointed out how to get to the shopping center with all the wonderful restaurants listed above.

When we first walked in the room, the A/C was on (when its 50 degress outside!) so we turned on the heat and the room was warm within 10 minutes. In the middle of the night I had to get up and turn it off because it was too hot. There was a desk with a very comfy leather chair on wheels as well as a stuffed chair. Everything looked new and very clean. I always check the sheets and mattress and saw nothing amiss. In fact, the mattress looked brand new and had a pillow top.

The shower got very hot and the water pressure was glorious. Towels were nice material and bar soap wasnt too bad. I slept like a rock, the beds were extremely comfortable. I like soft mattresses and this one did not disappoint. The TV only had 15 channels (normal news channels as well as TNT, TBS, Discovery, 2 childrens channels, etc) I did not hear any neighbors or maids. We left around 7am and there was a newspaper that had been slid underneath our door waiting for us.

They had the hotel decorated for Halloween, it was really nice. Lots of carved pumpkins, which we were asked to vote on! Both times I went to the front desk they were friendly and helpful.

They have an indoor pool and whirlpool as well as an outdoor pool. I didnt not go and check these out. Check-out is noon and Check-in is 4 pm. There is free Wi-Fi with a password given at check-in. I was using my netbook and my co-worker used her tablet with no problems, wasnt slow at all.

Greetings Trip Advisor Guests!
THANK YOU! That has to be one of the best reviews we have had since this hotel was on Trip Advisor! Please make sure you stop by and ask for me so I can thank you in person during your net swing through York.
By the way - the short, plump pumpkin was the one I carved ~ who did you vote for? All our departments joined in on the Halloween fun so Im curious which one you liked.
We do find our hotel to be the place where employees care a little more than other places, give a little extra service than some and thats because, in part, we have gotten to know our guests over the years. While some hotels do have a new look, modern furniture and snappy uniforms, we find that 'staying real' and recognizing 'everyday heroes' - moms, dads, out of town business guys, etc makes our brand of hospitality much more natural and special.
We hope you went away with a feeling of being at 'home' and not at a 'hotel'.
We are here for you next time - lots of things coming up too - Thanksgiving, Christmas and New years - who knows what we might come up with during the season.
In any event - on behalf of the staff and management, thank you for your posting and we hope to have you back again soon as our guest.
Best Wishes and Safe Travels,
