“Some rooms are better than others”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

When we checked in, I told the desk attendant that we had made reservations for a pet room. He told us he was giving us a room in the tower, one of the better rooms. When we got to the room, we were very pleased. It was a lovely room, good atmosphere, clean, just what you wanted for the price. However, we immediately received a call from the front desk saying we were put into the wrong room, and this was not a pet friendly room. The desk attendant came upstairs and said he had made a mistake. In compensation, he gave us a coupon for a free in-room movie rental and two free drinks at the bar, which I thought was a decent thing to do.
However, the room we were moved into was disappointing. There are definitely two classes of rooms at this hotel, but you are charged the same for both which is unreasonable. The tower rooms are the nice rooms, and if you want your money's worth, definitely try to get a tower room. The other rooms are all in an old section, like a hotel that was built in the 1970s, which is musty and tired. Although it is apparent they have tried to update the rooms, it just doesn't work, and the room still feels worn out. The one nice thing about the pet rooms is that they have a sliding glass door (which was very difficult to open and close) that opens onto a little grassy area where you can walk your pet. It's a minor convenience, but definitely not enough for the price. Also, even though they give you the bottom of the barrel rooms for the pet rooms, you are still charged the same price as the swanky rooms, and on top of that, a pet fee. So you are in fact paying more for a substandard room, which is wrong. Overall the room was clean, albeit old and musty.
All hotel employees that we came into contact with were professional and polite. The location is in a busy area of Wyomissing, so it is constantly bustling with activity. Our room basically opened onto the Hooters parking lot, which may or may not be your thing.
It is, unfortunately, difficult to find a good pet friendly hotel in the Wyomissing area, but we may continue our search. If the price of the pet rooms was cheaper, I would probably stay here again.

“Nice hotel for the price.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I was in town for some tests at a local hospital and needed to stay overnight. The Crowne Plaza looked like a good deal and I was right.

I arrived at the hotel early and the desk clerk really did his best to get me into a room. Unfortunately, I had to wait until housekeeping did the cleaning but I appreciated the clerks efforts to help me.

My room was an "executive king" in the tower. It was spacious, clean and neat. Lots of toiletries and towels in the bathroom. The bed was super comfy.

I ordered room service breakfast and it arrived quickly. The food was hot and well-prepared.

It would have been perfect if there was a small refrigerator in the room. I enjoy having cold beverages to drink in the evenings and the soda vending machine was a little pricey.

The hotel is close to shopping and restaurants which is convenient. I used to live in the area so knew my way around.

Be sure to visit the VF outlets. Although the outlets have lost some of their earlier sparkle, there are still bargains to be found.

“Exceded my expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

In less than 24 hours this hotel found many ways to impress me. Everything from checking in, to requesting more towels, to breakfast and walking out the door was easy and pleasant. Every hotel employee was nice and friendly and responded immediately to any request I made. After checking out I was walking out to my car and a hotel employee insisted on helping me with my luggage. Can't remember the last time that happened. If you're looking for a hotel in the area you would be crazy not to stay here.

“Very attentive to detail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

My wife and I wanted a get away but didn't have time so we just checked into the Crown Plaza here close to home and it impressed me. The staff was great there was entertainment in the lounge and it made for a real nice weekend.

“Quiet and convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We spent one night at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in mid-January. It's set high on a hill, so is easy to locate, even for those unfamiliar with the area. It's convenient to restaurants and strip shopping areas, with a large mall also close by.

The hotel staff and particularly the general manager, were very friendly and helpful.

Our room was in the "New York" wing and faced into a courtyard, away from the road, so it was very quiet. The room was spacious and had many comforts of home, including a large desk, easy chair and large high definition LCD TV (with real HD service, unlike many other places we've stayed). There were ceramic mugs for the room's coffee pot. These helped (slightly) to make the usual bad hotel brew a bit better. The bedside lamps had 2 outlets apiece, a nice convenience. The bed was king size and very comfortable. We had a couple of problems with the room: a door that needed to be slammed in order to latch properly and really weak Internet service.

The bathroom was large and had niceties that included a larger shower head, hair dryer and even a lighted makeup mirror. The toiletries and soap had a nice lemony scent. Unfortunately, the (central) exhaust did a really poor job of keeping the room and mirrors from getting steamy.

Breakfast (an added cost) consisted of a much better than average buffet with cooked-to-order eggs. The coffee was not particularly good, definitely not up to Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts standards, but the orange juice was excellent.

One service we haven't seen in awhile was housekeeping knocking on the door around 8:30 a.m. to ask if we needed additional coffee or towels.

All in all, we had a good stay and would consider another visit to this Crowne Plaza if in the area again.

Room Tip: For a quiet stay, select a room away from the lobby and facing the courtyard.
