“Good quality for good price”

We came to Wilkes-Barre for a comedy show and needed a place to stay 1 night. When we checked in, we were greeted with delicious chocolate chip cookies. The rooms had recently been renovated and were clean and comfortable. We appreciated that the hotel was quiet. If we need to return to Wilkes-Barre, we would stay here again since it was good quality for the price.

“Not the best HIE, but not bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We stay in a lot of the Holiday Inn Express hotels when travelling. Always know what you are going to get and the Priority Club gives us a number of free nights.

Stayed here December 23 and we had some minor issues. The primary one was that the heat would not shut off. We like it cooler to sleep and we were unable to get any fresh air or turn on the fan (It would run for a couple minutes and shut down.) We tried the wall thermostat and the window unit but no luck. There was no way to open the window so we were at a loss and it was too late to wake kids to move to another room.

Second issue was that we arrived to a clogged toilet. Did not realize it immediately, but then in the morning it was clear that the toilet was clogged all night. Should have been picked up when they cleaned the room. They offered to come up, but we were trying to get dressed to hit the road and just decided to use the one downstairs.

Not something they can control, but the room seemed on the slightly smaller side for an HIE. There was very little room between the end of the bed and the TV/Desk/Armoir.

I will say that the breakfast was very good and the area spotless. The woman that worked it was doing a great job.

“out of towners”

We were in from out of town for a wedding held a few miles away. When we arrived we were greeted warmly ,asked if there was anything they could do to help with our stay. We found the hotel clean, comfortable, and in a decent area. We arent fancy diners so we found a small restaurant/bar just down the road where the food was great. All in all we have no complaints with our stay at the hotel or the area in which it is located. I had read some so-so reviews but we were totaly satisified with this place.

“Nice, comfortable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

Stopped in Wilkes-Barre for a one-night stay during a 16 hour road trip. Used some reward points so ended up paying only $40 for the night. The hotel was very clean and comfortable. Large beds with nice pillows. Bathroom was very clean. The only strange thing was there were no towel bars other than the one hook on the back of the door ... not even a place to hang a hand towel. Nice views overlooking the city. Quick and easy check in and check out. Would definitely stay here again.

“Nice Hotel but Bad First Impression”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

I had reserved two rooms on a family trip for my niece's college homecoming. This Holiday Inn Express was on the "special rate" list of accommodations provided by Misericordia University. As a requirement to obtain the special rate, you had to contact the property directly to make your reservations, which I did, and in doing so, received a confirmation number.
Upon arriving at the hotel at 9:00 PM on a Saturday, (in the rain), I was told that I had only reserved one room and they were "sold out" for the evening. When I insisted that I had reserved two rooms, I was told I only reserved 1 room. After producing my confirmation number, (which I needed to go to the car to retrieve), I was then told that I cancelled my reservation for two rooms and then reserved only one room and they were still sold out.
Since one room was not an option, I asked the man at the counter what he could do to help me and he said "Nothing" and there was no one else on property that could help me. It was at that point that I went out to my car (again) to retrieve my cell phone. Upon my return, the desk clerk told me that now I had two rooms available... just as I had reserved.
The hotel itself was fine... updated, clean and modern, as you would expect from any Holiday Inn Express.
I don't know what the reservation issue was, it was never explained to me. I don't know why I needed to go thru this "game" in order for them to give me the rooms I had reserved in the first place. Perhaps, due to the late hour of my 9:00 PM arrival, one of the rooms I had reserved (and supposedly prepaid) have been already given to someone else.
