“We keep coming back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Wilkes-Barre is a bit more than half way to our grandsons in Virginia. Since retiring we have stayed at the Econo Lodge 3 times, and have not been disappointed. Staff are friendly, the rooms are very clean and the breakfast room is always well stocked. Each time we have gotten very good value, not over paying, nor do we get the feeling that corners are being cut at our expense. Do not hesitate to recommend to others.

“Noisy”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

This was our second stay here and probably our last. There was poor sound insulation between rooms and we could hear the TV in the next room all night. At 1:00 am a security alarm sounded on an empty building just across the parking lot. The night manager was rude and unhelpful when I first contacted him. He called back later and offered to move us across the hall but by then (about 1:30am) the alarm had stopped. We finally got to sleep around 2:30 am. Breakfast was mediocre- no eggs, meat, potatoes, or fresh fruit. There are better choices available even if they cost a little more. If you want to stay here, better bring a set of ear plugs.

Please accept our sincerest apology...
The security alarm at the mini mart located near the hotel went off. Unfortunately, it took time for the owner to arrive and meet the police to get it turned off. Our front desk personnel did their very best to resolve the issue.
We were very sorry to hear our breakfast disappointed you. The hotel offers much more than a continental breakfast which is the norm at many other "economy" hotels. Just a few examples: hard-cooked eggs, bagels, muffins, toaster waffles, toast, 2 cold cereals, hot oatmeal, 2 fruit juices, 2 flavors of yogurt, milk, coffee, tea and hot chocolate.
Once again...we are sorry your stay was less than you expected. We can only hope that you will return to us one day to give us a second chance.

“The best Econo Lodge in the country!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

This is every bit as nice as the higher end Comfort Inns. There was a refreshing scent in the air when we arrived, the lobby was decorated very nicely for the season, and they offered a free Wall Street Journal! Also includes a full breakfast, which we have not had an an Econo Lodge before. The rooms were clean and spacious. I know they've won national awards, but we just had to review this hotel as it is so good. The ladies at the desk were very friendly and helpful.

“A consistently good experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

This is a halfway meeting point for my cousin & me. We have been staying here off and on, weekdays and weekends for over three years. We have never had a bad experience. The rooms are always immaculate. Very good breakfast for the price (no meats). It is in a separate room with tables and chairs, TV, coffee, tea, juice, bagels & cream cheese, muffins & butter, waffles & syrup, cereal & milk, hard-boiled eggs. No matter what time we get up, it is still fresh and refreshed. Our last trip coincided with the unexpected snow storm of halloween. They had many last minute guests due to being right smack at the 81 exit. Still, they managed to keep food coming the next day. The day of the storm, lots of people had pulled off the highway and most were accomodated long before the check-in time. Truly rising to the occasion. This is continues to be owned and operated by the same people and the amazing Carolyn is still taking care of us after all these years. The price is economy, but the people and accomodations are much more. You can tell the pride everyone takes in this property. At the next door hotel, there is a nice lounge with burger type food and drinks. Right out front is a Perkins. Also, as two women travelers, we always are so pleased to find a safe-feeling place to stay. Interestingly, on this visit, we discovered many wonderful restaurants just two miles away on and near Main Street.
