I was looking for a place to go away with my girlfriend for a romantic weekend getaway. The hustle and bustle of city life had gotten to both of us. I happened across the Inn at Hickory Run while doing a search for romantic getaways and determined that this was the place. The rooms (4 available) are each in a different wood theme. I selected the Cherry Room, being it was listed as the most secluded one available. It was indeed as listed, being off the dinette area, while the other three rooms are all off the common area of the Inn and closer to the entrance. Each room has a nice King Sized bed, In-room fireplace, Television with DVD player, a CD/Radio, a large Whirlpool Bath and separate Shower stall in a roomy bathroom. Free WiFi is available for those needing to keep in touch with the outside world or look up more information about nearby things to do.
Dave, the owner was one of the most hospitable persons I have met in a long time. From the moment we arrived, he was very helpful in getting us in and setup, as well as understanding our needs and what we had planned for the weekend. We were one of three couples staying there over the weekend and I could see he was willing to give advice on things to do in the area based on each of our plans. From fishing to shopping to places to eat or just simply relaxing, he was helpful to all of us and served as a springboard for my INTERNET look-ups. As an added note, all of the rooms are on the first floor, so it makes it easy for anyone who may have physical limitations. Being the floors are all wood, bring a pair of slippers to walk around the house if you are staying in.
Each night, Dave had snacks, fresh fruit, coffee, tea and refreshments available in the dining area and there was also a small refrigerator available if you brought your own stuff that needed to be kept chilled. Breakfast each morning was served early enough to give you a full day for yourself but not too early that you were not rested. In addition, it was tasty and home made. Dave showed he was very in tune with his guests in a very short period of time. Sunday morning, he served Ham & Cheese Quiches with Home-fries and not being a cheese person, I simply skipped the quiche. Dave, while sitting with us talking, noticed I wasn't eating it, and immediately offered to make something else in it's place. I decided to keep it simple and had some scrambled eggs.
In the common area, there is a nice sized couch and chairs with a larger TV and DVD player available along with a selection of DVD's available to watch, either there or in your room. There is a fireplace divides the common area with the ding area and some comfortable chairs to relax in front of the fireplace.
If you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing place to get away from it all, I would highly recommend the Inn at Hickory Run. My girlfriend and I both plan on making a number of return trips in the future, just for the two of us.
