This place is GREAT! Staying in a caboose is so wonderfully unique. They offer several types of accommodations too, from couple suites to family size rooms with bunk beds for the kids. And the Strasburg steam train runs right in front. Eat in the railroad diner car and be sure to visit the railroad attractions in the area. Great for railfans and non-railfans alike.

My husband and I stayed here in July, 2010. I didn't tell my husband what hotel I had booked and the look on his face as we drove in was priceless! :-) We stayed for two nights and we loved sleeping in a caboose. We had a twin--the beds were small. Not super comfortable, but not uncomfortable either. I wouldn't go here for romance or luxury but for an unusual, relaxing beak this is perfect. We especially liked having our own "porch" where we could sit and have drinks (byob) in the evening.

This is our second time at the Red Caboose. We arrive late after the front desk was closed. However, the key was ready for us and the caboose was spotless. The petting zoo was great for my two kids. We were close to many attractions. I very nice young lady helped us with directions and suggestions about nearby attractions. My kids were so happy that I decided to stay another night. We spent one night as part of our train weekend to visit the railroad, toy train museum and anything else my six year old could find related to trains. Upon arrival we were quickly checked inn and got into our caboose. The caboose was reasonably clean and cozy.

Pros: Close to strasburg railroad, unique, memorable experience for kids, on site restuarant with good breakfast.
Cons: Caboose could use a really good cleaning from top to bottom (i.e., stains on some walls and drapes), the bed was not very comfortable.

Overall, it is a good place to take the kids for one night .....it will create a good memory.

I gave an average review on this property due to the overall cleanliness of the caboose and the bed. If the bed were newer and the caboose was given a good overall cleaning, I would give it a very good. If you have kids that love trains, give it try as it will create a great memory....
