“Plenty of potential”

After you read this, one may say that I was generous on my rating. I believe that being fair in the review is necessary, and that one who does nothing but bash the hotel unless they absolutely tried to make your stay horrible is not required.

I work for another Choice Hotels property. I know what standards need to be met and how harsh people can be if the slightest thing is not what they wanted. I left my stay today, the second time I was here, a little more disappointed, but I will no doubt come back and give them another shot.

I am not telling everyone to not come here. There are plenty of good things about this place. I do also understand that they are fairly new into the chain. I hope that the owner recognizes the awesome location that he has and then continues to put the upgrades in the rooms that the previous responses from managers on this site said they were going to do here.

We checked in around 5 pm. I won this off Priceline for 50 dollars. If I had known that we were going to get here, I would have used my employee rate to get it for my excellent price I get at hotels in the chain. We had a decent experience here before. We check in, Freddy was cool, yet professional. We go to our room, and see that they are in the process of installing the tv for that room. Not a problem. He gives us keys to another room, a much smaller room. I do not think that the room is a closet, like previous reviews assuming they are talking about this room. It had plenty of room for two people, and the bathroom had plenty of space. On to the + and - of the place.

The place is in a great location, as many have mentioned. It feels so isolated, but you are only a few minutes away from all the good stuff in the area, including shopping and restaurants. There is a pricier but very nice restaurant next door. The place, from afar has a very charming feel to it. You have to give them credit that they have their hands full in keeping a place up and running that is so old and previously in disrepair. The bed was ridiculously comfortable. The room had a nice fridge and microwave. The tv was nice, new and had plenty of channels. I did not hear any noise outside or next door either. The shower pressure was excellent. The fitness center was one of the best in the category. All of of the equipment worked great. The breakfast the next morning was great as well. The lady who ran it was very nice, as wall all of the staff here.

My overall complaint regards the condition of the property. The carpet was pretty worn. There were slight renovations in the bathroom, but they were sloppily done. The tub and surround were in need of being replaced as well. Some paint was chipped off here and there in the room and bathroom. The tub had quite a few hairs around and in it. This does not mean it was not cleaned, rather it was just cleaned very poorly. The carpeting had some crumbs in it, but it was nothing to gross me out. Yes, I could have told the front desk about it ,and I do feel guilty of complaining on here without telling them, but I did not want to complain anymore, given the price I paid for the room. I am very detail-oriented, and room 114 was not cleaned to what I think a place in a moderate class hotel should be done to.

I do believe they will continue to fix this place up. I am sure it is not easy. This was just a notice to anyone going that the place, although 'charming', is not a country bed and breakfast place that is flawless. Once they paint a few things and remodel some other things, I will bet that it will be back to a great property.

Thank you for taking the time to share comments of your recent experience at our hotel. We appreciate your opinion about guests who use this forum to "bash" a hotel, and are glad that you found many things about our property that you enjoyed.

We have been working on upgrades throughout the hotel property, starting with adding refrigerators and microwaves to our rooms per many guest requests. And yes, we do have our hands full with maintenance due to the historical age of the property, I am upset, however, about the cleanliness issues you found and will alert our general manager about your comments so that proper procedures can be refreshed with our housekeeping personnel to make certain that these issues are corrected ongoing.

We do hope you'll come back and see us again, and since we consider guest complaints to be a great teaching tool as we work to improve our property, we would welcome the opportunity to hear of any issues while you are present on the property.

Thank you again for your comments.

“Many updates and upgrades--nice hot breakfast too!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

My wife and I stayed here on New Years Eve as this is one of the few area hotels which accepts pets. We had stayed here a few years back before the Choice Hotel chain purchased the Inn and it became a Clarion, the top of their line. I am pleased to report that the run down look of the old Inn has been replaced by a much needed facelift resulting in new furniture, carpeting, bathroom fixtures, and room entry doors. The rooms are still quite spacious and quiet, and the Inn's location as always well removed from the heavy traffic noise. We always enjoy the front view from the Inn's entrance which looks across a beautiful stretch of Amish farmland. This has become not only our favorite place to stay in the Lancaster area, but it's also a great value compared with what the bigger and fancier places are offering.

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments about our hotel property and your recent stay. We're glad you appreciate the upgrades that we continue to provide to our guests since joining the Choice Hotels franchise. We work diligently at creating value adds for our guests. We've just recently added refrigerators to all of our guest rooms and are in the process of making sure all rooms have microwaves before summer, Plus, we've upgraded our pet rooms from 2 double beds to 2 queen beds, assuring an even more comfortable stay for both our 2-legged and our 4-legged friends. And it's always nice to hear that others enjoy the amazing view that we at the hotel get to look at every day.

Thank you as well for being a valued Choice Privileges member!

We look forwarding to having you come see us again soon!

“Quaint Unique Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

This is such a quaint unique Inn - it feels like you're in your own little village. We stayed for two nights and had a wonderful nights sleep - super comfortable bed and fluffy pillows. Even though the Inn is older, it is well maintained. Each room has flat-screen TV's which was really nice. Our room had a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker which was great! Jody and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed eating breakfast in the sunroom and watching the Amish buggies drive by. It's a very quiet area away from the hustle and bustle of hotel strip on Route 30. The Fireside Tavern next door has great food and service also. The Inn is a great place to go for a get-away. Make sure you check out the Eldreth Pottery shop down the street - beautiful handmade pottery made in PA and very reasonable. The Inn has several pieces on display which look really nice. We will definitely go back.

We're thrilled that you enjoyed your stay with us. We are, first and foremost, in the business of selling a good night's sleep in a clean, comfortable room, and it appears that we did well for you in that regard.

We're also thrilled that you discovered the 'character' of our hotel that adds an ambiance to your experience. The view from the sunroom while enjoying your breakfast is stellar, especially when Mother Nature cooperates and you get to see the sun rising (it faces east).

We are glad you discovered Eldreth Pottery, just one of the many treasures we have here in our town. On your next visit, we'll be glad to send you to discover another Strasburg treasure.

Again, thank you for your kind words. We're glad you enjoyed staying with us and look forward to your return!

“Needs some TLC”

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a couples weekend and to see a show at The Sight and Sound Theatre. It is a great location in proximity to the theatre. And the cost seemed reasonable. We stayed in a room where the building wasn't even attached to the hotel. When we arrived and checked in the front desk staff was friendly when asked of the history of hotel as well as the restaurant (Fireside) he didn't know much ? The room was old and in great need of being updated. The bathroom was so small you could set on the toilet and wash you hand in the sink at the same time : ) . One of the small walls in the bathroom had been patched with caulking compound but not repainted. The bed was comfortable as were the linens and pillows. It could have really used the carpet replaced and wall repainted to freshnen it up. Would I pay the price to stay there again ? No ,probably not .

Thank you for sharing your recent experience at our hotel. We recognize and value the comments our guests share with us. We agree that there needs to be some 'updating' of hard goods in our guest rooms (wall paint, carpeting, etc.) and are already beginning this process now after having a very busy year. While we understand that those things detracted from your stay, we are glad that your found the bedding comfortable and clean, since we realize we are in the business of selling a good night's sleep.

We hope that you will return to our area in the future, and would consider it a privilege to have you visit us again.

“Wonderful Experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

My Husband & I stayed at the Hotel over the Thanksgiving holiday. We travel to the area for shopping trips or just to relax. We had a WONDERFUL experience at the hotel. The rooms were extremely clean. The grounds were beautiful. We had the pleasure of meeting Jody L. Osborne who is the Executive Sales Assistant, she is a wonderful person, who really cares about the Property. We had a wonderful time visiting with Jody. We cannot wait to return.

Nothing makes me happier about my position at the hotel when I have the opportunity to meet guests who appreciate that a stay at our property is about a "total experience" and that some of the unique quirks of our facility are what enhance that experience!

Thank you for sharing your kind words (and making this sales assistant blush!), and we look forward to seeing you again soon!
