Last night we had a complication with a hotel booking meaning we had nowhere to go - we were meant to be way back on 70 before Washington to sleep that night but everywhere was booked so we kept driving. It got to 6am and we finally found this one. The owner generously gave us a discounted price since we weren't going to be in the room that long and let us stay till 2pm before checking out. We had been to other hotels and most were full but some wanted $90 and checkout at 11am! Rip off. So we really appreciated the generosity of this hotel a lot. We dealt with the owner and he was a nice man.
From the road this hotel looks really quaint and themed in the medieval kind of styling however on getting close up, it is a very tired little motel and the owners are aware of this and said they are planning on updating them in the near future.
Inside, it does have an old smell. The room went really dark tho when the curtains were pulled which blocked the daylight outside for us which was perfect. The decor fitted the theme and was tidy and clean. The carpet does need to be replaced, the sink plug thing didn't work, the shower was strong but had a squirt coming out sideways hitting the curtain. Once this is refreshed a bit it will be much better.
The sheets, linen and towels all looked a bit tired also and like they have seen better days.
Summary of Good points: It had a small fridge/freezer - which is fantastic. It had a microwave. Air conditioned. Great pressure on the shower. You can park right outside your room and unpack the car easily - none of this two storey nonsense! The bed was comfortable. It had a ledge along the wall which is such a great idea to put suitcases and other things so you don't have to bend as far down. Great location right by the turnpike on and off point. The room can go really dark. Free Internet!
Once refreshed this hotel will have a lot more potential. We are grateful for this hotel providing us a much needed place of rest in a busy season of booked out hotels.
