“Badly in need of renovation and attention to details”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2011

This motel is very run down, in need of cosmetic renovation and better customer care. The room I stayed in had ugly striped carpeting, a pastel-colored upholstered couch and an ugly bedspread with a busy print that matched neither the carpet nor the couch. Having the couch was nice, one good quality among many bad. The TV was small, although many channels were available. The bathroom mirror was weird, a many-pane style that was hard to use, with ugly black and gold "marbling" on the sides. The thin blanket on the bed was stained, I'm guessing because this hotel is pet-friendly. Paid too much to stay at such an ugly place.

Room Tip: This motel is located directly off I-76. Convenient location, but not pretty.

“Don't stay here!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2011

My husband and I stayed here for one night along with 5 other couples. We were a part of 22 people who are bikers who came to visit Shanksville and the Flight 93 Memorial. The others stayed at a different hotel and I sure wish we did too. We are all professional people, not what most think about bikers. Well traveled and I am a full time nurse and part time travel agent.

This place is very run down, don't expect anything much. Less than your typical motel setting. Road into the motel is very difficult to find and full of pot holes...had to watch so we didn't get swallowed up in the holes while on the bike.

Check in was easy and the lady at the counter was polite and friendly but that was not enough to make up for the poor condition of this motel.

Got to our room 147 and it was dirty, dirty, dirty. Outside debris all over the carpet, leaves and chunks of dirt. The beds were very hard and the bedspreads were full of cigarette burn holes. There were chunks of unidentifiable black substance on top of both beds.

The vanity/sink is outside the bath area and the faucet handles were those glass starburst patterns and had mold between all the glass folds. There was a good 1/8 of an inch thick yellowish crud crusted on the faucet between the handles and the water spigot. They vanity had a large piece of the wood molding missing and the mirror surrounded by the old type mirror squares with the variegated gold throughout the mirror pane. The bath area is very small but the tub was clean. The top of the tub surround did have mold. The corners of the bath and vanity area looked like they had not been cleaned in a year.

The ironing board did not have a cover on it so if you wanted to use it you had to put a towel on the board to avoid ironing in the pattern of the holes in the metal ironing board. The iron did work well.

The fridge and the microwave worked well and both were clean. We checked the mattress out and did not see any sign of unwanted creatures but, alas, in the morning I had multiple itchy bites marks on both hands and arms, my face, forehead and neck. Unfortunately we did nothing about it until we got home and called them to report the bites. They thanked us and called us back later to report they found nothing in the room. These bites followed the typical pattern of bed bug bites and looked exactly like them. But, without seeing the bugs the hotel will not refund our money.

This is a pet friendly hotel and it showed on the carpet...very dirtily with large old black stains all over. Hummm, could the stains have been pet excrement stains? Who knows?

The continental breakfast was OK, offering coffee, donuts, bagels but in limited quantities.

The motel does have a nice pool, not very large but will do. Problem was pool closed at 9pm and we didn't get back until 10 to 9 so we couldn't use it.

One of the other couples in our group said their room was very dirty too and had large cobwebs hanging from the ceiling. Others in our group were satisfied with their rooms and had new carpet and decent bedspreads.

“A life saver for us when we couldn't find a room - really helped us”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2010

Last night we had a complication with a hotel booking meaning we had nowhere to go - we were meant to be way back on 70 before Washington to sleep that night but everywhere was booked so we kept driving. It got to 6am and we finally found this one. The owner generously gave us a discounted price since we weren't going to be in the room that long and let us stay till 2pm before checking out. We had been to other hotels and most were full but some wanted $90 and checkout at 11am! Rip off. So we really appreciated the generosity of this hotel a lot. We dealt with the owner and he was a nice man.

From the road this hotel looks really quaint and themed in the medieval kind of styling however on getting close up, it is a very tired little motel and the owners are aware of this and said they are planning on updating them in the near future.

Inside, it does have an old smell. The room went really dark tho when the curtains were pulled which blocked the daylight outside for us which was perfect. The decor fitted the theme and was tidy and clean. The carpet does need to be replaced, the sink plug thing didn't work, the shower was strong but had a squirt coming out sideways hitting the curtain. Once this is refreshed a bit it will be much better.

The sheets, linen and towels all looked a bit tired also and like they have seen better days.

Summary of Good points: It had a small fridge/freezer - which is fantastic. It had a microwave. Air conditioned. Great pressure on the shower. You can park right outside your room and unpack the car easily - none of this two storey nonsense! The bed was comfortable. It had a ledge along the wall which is such a great idea to put suitcases and other things so you don't have to bend as far down. Great location right by the turnpike on and off point. The room can go really dark. Free Internet!

Once refreshed this hotel will have a lot more potential. We are grateful for this hotel providing us a much needed place of rest in a busy season of booked out hotels.

“Poorly Maintained Motel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2009

I had the following problems at the Somerset Knight's Inn:
1. Reservation for free stay with Wyndham Reward points was confusing to the front desk person, but was finally accepted.
2. Front desk person said that my room may not be clean. He had me check the room. I did, and found it had not been cleaned. He did put me in another room.
3. The room that I stayed in was not maintained and cleaned well. I found food crumbs on floor, spider webs on ceiling, dirt marks on pillow covers, no pillow covers on extra pillows, holes in blanket, no protection between sheet and mattress, bathroom ceiling fan falling out of ceiling, hair in sink and bathtub, not enough towels for family, no drain plug for sink.
4. Air conditioning system was not very adjustable and was noisy.
5. There was only coffee in lobby. There was no breakfast food items offered.
6. Motel is understaffed. Only 1 person at front desk. Same person both at night and morning. I don't know how he got any sleep.

I suggest that management remodel this motel and ensure that their cleaning personnel clean thoroughly and provide cleaner linens than what was provided, as well as a mattress cover.

I have enjoyed staying at Knights Inn properties in the past, but have found the properties that I have stayed at lately to be poorly managed and in disrepair. It is sad that I have not stayed in a clean, well maintained Knight's Inn in many years. I think this may be our last time to choose to stay at a Knight's Inn. We would not have stayed at this one if we had not gotten it for free with our reward points.

“Cheapest Option; Don't Expect Anything Fancy”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 March 2009

I stayed at the Knight's Inn in Somerset in early March 2009. If you are looking for a place just to crash on your way through and want the cheapest option - this is fine. However, if you value the look/feel of the hotel at all then pass on this one. The hotel staff was very nice but it is a very old and run down hotel.
