This was our second trip to Great Wolf Lodge and we really enjoyed. We got a discount room with a school group, so that helped with the ridiculous prices. 6 of us shared a kid camp suite: 4 adults and 2 kids. We brought out own blow up bed since the fold out couches are pretty uncomfortable. The little room for the kids was great and they loved it. Even if the 2 bedrooms weren't so expensive, we still probably wouldn't take them since they don't have the kids cabin in them. Last year we had a slightly bigger room with the Kid Cabin suite and we definitely could feel the difference in the size with 6 of us in there. The one annoyance about the room was that every so often the wall heating unit would kick on and blow cold air into the room, waking us up every few hours. We had it turned off but it still happened regularly.
We alternated between the Water Park and the Magi Quest game, which the kids very occupied and entertained. The Magi Quest game would be hard for any child under 6. The 4 year old was just happy to point the wand occasionally at something to make it light up or speak. Magi Quest happens on several different floors so you spend a lot of time just walking up and downstairs to complete the tasks. There needs to be more sofas in the Magi Quest areas so parents can take a break once in awhile and still be next to where the kids are. Right now there are only 3 chairs on the third floor and places for 5-6 people to sit on the 4th floor. People were sitting all over the floor while the little wizards ran up and down the stairs completing their tasks.
The water park is fun for everyone. I recommend going during late night or lunch and dinner hours to avoid the heavy crowds. As my son and I floated around the lazy river I exchanged several smiles with other happy Moms. It really is a great place to spend time with your kids where everyone can be happy. It is hard to find chairs, but I never felt the need to buy a locker. Our bags were never touched. We felt very safe and unworried.
We did not eat at Great Wolf Lodge at all. We brought a tray of lasagna that we heated up for dinner both nights in the microwave. The diner at the bottom of the hill was just perfect for breakfast and the 6 of us ate there for $40 and got everything we wanted ($2.75 for eggs, home fries and toast.) We brought tons of snacks and my sister brought her K-cup machine, so we didn't even need to stand in that 15 minute line outside the Starbucks every morning.
The 4 and 7 year old kids just loved the place and it made us happy to see them enjoying the place so much, but I wouldn't come here without them.
Room Tip: The themed room with the kids camp, wolf den, etc. are beloved by the kids and charming and fun.
