“Nice styling place in upper central Pa.”

Wife and I decided to change from our usual MO and not stay in Scranton when I had business in the Towanda area of Pa. Normally due to the gas exploration going on in the area hotels in Towanda itself are price gouging. Charging over $100 per night average for hotels that are truly dumps for the most part caused us to stay in the Scranton area and then head East early in the morning toward Towanda. After doing that for several trips we decided to branch out and discovered the BriMarie Inn in Sayre.

Sent them and email and followed that up with a call and their baseline room was ours. Rate counting tax was circa $118 per night. For that rate you got a nice room with private bath in a restored beautiful hotel that had some of the best insulation one could imagine. Literally we overlooked a nearby convenience store and had zero problem with noise from the outside. Room was clean and furnished well. Probably could have used a desk lamp near a side chair, but that was easily overlooked given the quality of the rest of the room.

Important to add that this hotel was completely renovated and new plumbing and electrical added, without causing the facility to loose its character and charm.

Another plus is there is a very nice restaurant downstairs with a good bar attached. Nice attentive wait staff and meals was first rate. I had duck with mango chutney, wild rice and grilled veggies. My wife had a special pasta dish. We had side salads, 4 drinks and desert and total price (not counting tip) was $72.00 Now, in this day and age and considering the quality that's a bargain.

Couple of other things is parking is behind the inn, but there is also street parking between 5pm to 9 am for free right in front of the hotel.

No comment on the breakfast (I'm writing this the night before), but there is an absolute nice bakery/diner right next to the CVS pharmacy (immediately across the street) that is first rate. At most it a 2 minute walk from the hotel.

Guess that's it. FWIW, there is no frig in the room (but there is one in the hallways) and ice is provided by the bar folks.

In summary, we would stay there again and that's a good endorsement from us.

Room Tip: All rooms seemed nice. Nice modern hotel with a true touch of class.

“Nicely done”

Small town America...not a knock. Sayre is an old place in the Northern reaches of PA. It has the feel of a place time forgot...which again may not be a bad thing.

The Inn is clean, well maintained, comfortable and about a time long gone...comfort and ease in a hotel.

Not all a,enities available...like a glass in your room, or a telephone, or an ice machine (bartender can give you a pitcher full) etc. While spartan there is a charm to the simplicity.

Clean john, beds and linen crisp, no dust...clean and pleasant.

Great for business or local for a day or two. Thumbs up/

“Dining at the BriMarie”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

I did not stay at the Inn, so can't report on that. However I went with friends for dinner and was very pleased by quality of the food, the service, and the reasonable cost. Had cocktails at the bar before dinner, and it was only five dollars a drink, and a very strong one at that. Maybe hit happy hour without knowing it. I real dining find in an unexpected place. The only small negative is that the rest room I used, while very clean, was not well designed.
If you happen to be in Sayre, Pa, or near there, this place is a real dining find. A nice surprise.

Room Tip: Just ate there. Not able to form an opinion of the rooms

“Restaurant better than Inn”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

We had the Spaulding room in the back and it was OK - very dark and somewhat dreary. No closet or space to hang any clothes (3 hooks). Next to the Fire Station and when the siren goes off it can shoot you 3 feet straight out of bed. The restaurant was good and the service was very good. Breakfast was very average even for continental.... had to go out and find someone to get more coffee. Service in the Inn section was cool and indifferent. The owner and help sure could use a course in "Inn Hospitality". We were overcharged at first but was credited upon noticing bill. We go to Sayre often to visit family but would not stay here again. The Palmer House in nearby Waverly is much nicer.

“Get down to breakfast early!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

The room was great, the house is lovely, great woodwork. I understand continental breakfast, but if you're not there within the first five people, good luck. I don't know how many people were staying there the weekend I stayed, but there were three yogurts, five donuts, a pot of coffee, among other things. When the milk ran out for my daughter's cereal, there was NO ONE to be found. I wandered throughout the kitchen and couldn't find any more milk or coffee. I finally went next door to the Dandy quicky mart and bought milk for cereal. Not worth the price I paid to stay there but better than some chain budget hotel.
