“Left with a very bad impression by the front desk manager Michelle Battista.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

I planned on staying at this hotel for a 2nd consecutive night but thanks to Michelle's poor customer service I seen the light. I stopped by the front desk which was vacant for a whole 2 minutes which is forever in the hospitality field until I knocked and the front desk manager Michelle Battista appeared shortly after.

I told Michelle that I checked out from the previous night but may I please use the business center to book a reservation quickly. Instead of being polite she treated me like some criminal turning it into a interrogation. "Which room were you in, under which name, why do you have to use the business center to book when you can do it here?"

Room 302, I'm not sure it was booked under a friend's friend who didn't stay, I would like to compare prices before I commit. "You have to have a room to use the facilities here" Well can you compare prices? "No, why would I help out the competition?" Really? This certainly is a first for me.

So she told me the room rate was $70 which didn't sound bad for checking in at 10AM on Friday with the check out being the following day at noon. She gave me room 121 which I was utterly peeved by it's dwarf size. It was basically a closet with a horrible view. The room was so outdated. Because I was already rubbed the wrong way by Michelle's lack of customer service skills, my instincts told me to run to the business center and check around for something better... Low and behold I found a 2 queen suite at the Marriott Residence Inn Northshore for $45.

I went back to the front desk and told Michelle of the great deal I've found so I would like a comparable room for the same amount or I wanted my money credited back so I can stay there. Michelle wouldn't budge on the price but does offer a double bed room. I thought about it but declined. "Sir you aren't getting your money back, when you signed that paper your money is non-refundable even if you didn't sleep in the room" LOL outright lie, let me speak to the General Manager.

Michelle leaves, explains the situation to the GM and says she'll credit back the room stay of $70 but will charge me $19.95 for using the business center. Hilarious, so basically your charging for doing something I initially politely asked you to do but you refused. Michelle starts to becomes snippy all because I told her I worked in the hotel field for a number of years and traveled to numerous hotels and never incurred such a problem over something so minor.

"Sir if you wanted to use the computer you should of went to FedEx Kinko's up the street' You never offered that alternative. "The other hotels don't offer our amenities" Actually they do and more. "We base our prices off of hotels near our surrounding area" Which made a the Marriott a steal even more because it's based Downtown closer to the action. "I looked at the Marriott's price and it isn't $45..." Yes it is, did you enter the code MMP? Try it now. "No."

I was respectful the whole time and not once talk to her in a condecending tone and even told her enjoy her weekend as I was leaving. Michelle calls me out as I'm half way to the door "By the way Sir, you were added to our do no rent list so you will never be able to get a room here" HAHAHA, what on earth did I do to the hotel to be added to the "Do not rent list'? I just smiled and left.

Michelle your lack of professionalism clearly shined thru by that last remark.

Michelle Battista, Front Office Manager at BEST WESTERN Parkway Center Inn, responded to this review
23 February 2012
In response to Blunt T, when you approached the desk and said you had stayed with us the night prior and would like to use the business center, I was fully prepared to assist you. However, despite your assertion that you were a registered guest, I found no record of a room being registered in your name. So then you said the room had been booked by a friend of a friend, whose name you could not remember. I told you, politely, that you had to be a registered guest to use the computers in the business center. You said that's exactly what you wanted to do; you wanted to use the computers to book a room, which didn't make a lot of sense, since you were standing at the front desk where you could have booked a room in person. At this point, it became clear you were not a registered guest, you just wanted to use our Internet. Finally, you said that you would book a room, so I took your credit card and booked a room for you, gave you the same rate that would be offered on any booking site for our property as well as access to the business center. A short time later, you came back, apparently after researching rates, and stated that you had found a great deal at the North Shore Marriott for $45 a night. You said you wanted me to give you a King Suite at the same price. I went online to find out if you were telling the truth about the Marriott rate, but could not verify that it was possible to get such a deal. So I told you I could not match the rate of $45 a night. You then asked for your money back so you could go somewhere else to stay. I told you I would remove the hold on your credit card, but I would have to charge you $19.95 for use of our business center, since you were not a registered guest. At no point was I disrespectful to you, despite my suspicion that you walked in off the street and lied to me about having stayed here in hopes of using the Internet for free, and then lied to me again about the deal he could get at the North Shore Marriott. The fact that you were not even a guest of our hotel makes this negative review even more disheartening. You can't complain about hospitality when you weren’t even a guest.

“2nd Stay and was better than the first.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

My husband and I stayed here for New Years Eve. This is our second stay here. The rooms are clean and the bed was very comfortable. Check in and out was very quick. We enjoyed two free drinks then the free shuttle took us to Station Square. The shuttle stopped at 10:30, so we took a cab back to the hotel. We didn't make it to breakfast.
We would stay here again. Clean, comfortable, easy to get to, and close to Pittsburgh. Only thing different from last stay was price. This stay was about $40 more. Maybe do to it being New Years Eve.

“Great value - cozy and clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We stayed at this hotel for New Years Eve and what a great choice. The room was small but for the amount of time you spend in the room it was perfect. It was very clean and though the bed was only a full size the bed was very comfortable and fresh. The complimentary adult drinks during happy hour and breakfast was better than I expected. The hotel had a decent pool and workout area. The free shuttle to downtown was a great perk and it was a short $10 cab ride back. Overall I would highly reccommend this hotel for your next trip to Pittsburgh.

“Most run down Best Western I have ever stayed at”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

I stayed here the other day while on vacation. I checked into a Double bed room and there was thick nasty hair on the bed. The entrance to the room is crowded with a couple of other entrances so there is no way people can open their doors at the same time. (they would run into each other) The entrance is claustrophobic for lack of a better term. The bathroom was disgusting and needed to be remodeled(tub, grout etc.). The carpet was so worn that there was wrinkles in it. I then went to the front desk and told them about the issues and the lady at the front desk scoffed a little when I told her about the problems then I was given a room 5 levels up. I got to this room and it was a little better but the pen in the desk area was chewed up. I brought this to the other lady at the desk and she laughed it off.

On a positive note there is a happy hour in the lobby where you are allowed 2 free drinks. The menu was small but it was a nice addition. The breakfast was pretty good but the orange juice was thin.

The worst part of the trip was when I woke up in the morning itching and with a seriously sore back. I am not sure about the itching (didn't see any bugs or anything) but the beds in that place are seriously worn out. For what the place charges I have to give it a 1 if the price was about 20 bux lower I would give it a 2. This is definitely the worst Best Western I can remember staying at.

“Great value for a convenient location with some nice extras.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

The BW Parkway Center is very convenient. They have a free shuttle, breakfast, Internet and a much nicer exercise facility than I expected. The bed was very comfortable. My room was quite small, but I didn't spend much time in it anyway. This is an old property and could use some updating. My rating would have been closer to average, but the wonderful staff and cheap nightly rate push it up to Very Good.
