I planned on staying at this hotel for a 2nd consecutive night but thanks to Michelle's poor customer service I seen the light. I stopped by the front desk which was vacant for a whole 2 minutes which is forever in the hospitality field until I knocked and the front desk manager Michelle Battista appeared shortly after.
I told Michelle that I checked out from the previous night but may I please use the business center to book a reservation quickly. Instead of being polite she treated me like some criminal turning it into a interrogation. "Which room were you in, under which name, why do you have to use the business center to book when you can do it here?"
Room 302, I'm not sure it was booked under a friend's friend who didn't stay, I would like to compare prices before I commit. "You have to have a room to use the facilities here" Well can you compare prices? "No, why would I help out the competition?" Really? This certainly is a first for me.
So she told me the room rate was $70 which didn't sound bad for checking in at 10AM on Friday with the check out being the following day at noon. She gave me room 121 which I was utterly peeved by it's dwarf size. It was basically a closet with a horrible view. The room was so outdated. Because I was already rubbed the wrong way by Michelle's lack of customer service skills, my instincts told me to run to the business center and check around for something better... Low and behold I found a 2 queen suite at the Marriott Residence Inn Northshore for $45.
I went back to the front desk and told Michelle of the great deal I've found so I would like a comparable room for the same amount or I wanted my money credited back so I can stay there. Michelle wouldn't budge on the price but does offer a double bed room. I thought about it but declined. "Sir you aren't getting your money back, when you signed that paper your money is non-refundable even if you didn't sleep in the room" LOL outright lie, let me speak to the General Manager.
Michelle leaves, explains the situation to the GM and says she'll credit back the room stay of $70 but will charge me $19.95 for using the business center. Hilarious, so basically your charging for doing something I initially politely asked you to do but you refused. Michelle starts to becomes snippy all because I told her I worked in the hotel field for a number of years and traveled to numerous hotels and never incurred such a problem over something so minor.
"Sir if you wanted to use the computer you should of went to FedEx Kinko's up the street' You never offered that alternative. "The other hotels don't offer our amenities" Actually they do and more. "We base our prices off of hotels near our surrounding area" Which made a the Marriott a steal even more because it's based Downtown closer to the action. "I looked at the Marriott's price and it isn't $45..." Yes it is, did you enter the code MMP? Try it now. "No."
I was respectful the whole time and not once talk to her in a condecending tone and even told her enjoy her weekend as I was leaving. Michelle calls me out as I'm half way to the door "By the way Sir, you were added to our do no rent list so you will never be able to get a room here" HAHAHA, what on earth did I do to the hotel to be added to the "Do not rent list'? I just smiled and left.
Michelle your lack of professionalism clearly shined thru by that last remark.
