My partner and I stayed at the Courtyard Pittsburgh Downtown on Saturday evening, November 26, 2011. We found the hotel to be a very good value with great amenities. We booked the hotel through Priceline.com and we able to get it for $74.00 + tax.
The Courtyard was easy to get to and is located right next to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Despite what others say about parking, we were able to find on street parking within yards of the hotel. [NOTE: be careful about times at meters and watch the signs for conditions, so you don't get towed!] If you are unable to find street parking and if you don't mind walking a couple of blocks, there is the option to park in the city parking garages, where a full day will set you back $9.75. That beats the valet parking price of $20.00.
As we entered the hotel, we noted the large lobby area with such incredibly high ceilings. It was comfortable and included a television, books, magazines and a huge touch screen TV to virtually explore the area around the hotel. That was very convenient and helpful. We were greeted pleasantly by the desk clerk, who stated that the hotel had undergone a recent renovation in the spring, but that they had just finished putting in the new mattresses on the 8th floor, where our room was. She informed us of the breakfast options and some of the local restaurants in the theater district in which the hotel is located.
When we arrived at the room, we were very pleased at the modern decor, cleanliness and layout of the room. All light switches and outlets were in working order and were placed for convenience, including two outlets on the lamp at the desk, great for charging cell phones. The bathroom was very large and very, very clean and was well appointed. When showering, the water was hot and was consistently one temperature, with no variations. The towels were also of good quality.
The beds featured several pillows to choose from and the beds were extremely comfortable. I slept like a baby after driving 700 miles in 3 days visiting relatives at Thanksgiving! You will like the beds. The room we stayed in was quiet and pleasant and faced the aforementioned Lawrence Convention Center.
The location of this hotel is a great "plus". It is in the heart of the theater district and is walking distance to the stadiums, waterfront and other attractions. Driving in Pittsburgh is fairly easy, although the triangular shaped downtown may confuse some. Generally, major routes, streets and bridges are well signed.
We did not take advantage of the breakfast at the hotel, choosing instead to sleep in late. Checkout was at Noon, which made the morning so much easier.
Overall, our stay we very pleasant and this hotel is great and we look forward to returning there. I highly recommend it to all.
