“Good stay at the Marriott”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

Agree with Hewesema... his description sums up this hotel. Nice place to stay. Typical Marriott experience. No view. High ceilings, nice washroom, bar fridge is empty, not too many channels, big room, great service, free internet and business centre, service was good.
Location is ok. Problem in Pittsburgh is that every area you want to visit is far apart from each other. This location is great to walk around downtown, along the river, to PNC Park.

“A good business hotel.”

This is a converted office building so the rooms have incredibly high ceilings (I would guess 20 feet). The bathroom is large and well equipped. The cable tv has a bit of a limited selection of channels but plenty to keep you busy. The restaurant is only open for breakfast but serves a limited menu quite quickly and at a good price. There is no bar. Because the building in between to other old building, the rooms dont have much of a view. It is a normal sort of Courtyard Inn and fills its role very well.

“Good hotel, good location, good price!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

My partner and I stayed at the Courtyard Pittsburgh Downtown on Saturday evening, November 26, 2011. We found the hotel to be a very good value with great amenities. We booked the hotel through Priceline.com and we able to get it for $74.00 + tax.

The Courtyard was easy to get to and is located right next to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Despite what others say about parking, we were able to find on street parking within yards of the hotel. [NOTE: be careful about times at meters and watch the signs for conditions, so you don't get towed!] If you are unable to find street parking and if you don't mind walking a couple of blocks, there is the option to park in the city parking garages, where a full day will set you back $9.75. That beats the valet parking price of $20.00.

As we entered the hotel, we noted the large lobby area with such incredibly high ceilings. It was comfortable and included a television, books, magazines and a huge touch screen TV to virtually explore the area around the hotel. That was very convenient and helpful. We were greeted pleasantly by the desk clerk, who stated that the hotel had undergone a recent renovation in the spring, but that they had just finished putting in the new mattresses on the 8th floor, where our room was. She informed us of the breakfast options and some of the local restaurants in the theater district in which the hotel is located.

When we arrived at the room, we were very pleased at the modern decor, cleanliness and layout of the room. All light switches and outlets were in working order and were placed for convenience, including two outlets on the lamp at the desk, great for charging cell phones. The bathroom was very large and very, very clean and was well appointed. When showering, the water was hot and was consistently one temperature, with no variations. The towels were also of good quality.

The beds featured several pillows to choose from and the beds were extremely comfortable. I slept like a baby after driving 700 miles in 3 days visiting relatives at Thanksgiving! You will like the beds. The room we stayed in was quiet and pleasant and faced the aforementioned Lawrence Convention Center.

The location of this hotel is a great "plus". It is in the heart of the theater district and is walking distance to the stadiums, waterfront and other attractions. Driving in Pittsburgh is fairly easy, although the triangular shaped downtown may confuse some. Generally, major routes, streets and bridges are well signed.

We did not take advantage of the breakfast at the hotel, choosing instead to sleep in late. Checkout was at Noon, which made the morning so much easier.

Overall, our stay we very pleasant and this hotel is great and we look forward to returning there. I highly recommend it to all.

“I went for a football game.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

I went for a Steelers - Ravens game so I didn't do much more that drop off my bag, go to the game, then come back to the hotel and sleep. Here is what I can tell you - The hotel was within walking distance of the stadiums. I was there for a Sunday night game and the walk back to the hotel felt safe. There is plenty to eat and drink within a close proximity to the hotel. Once you park, which is valet parking at $22 a day, you will have no reason to get back in your car. Overall I would recommend this hotel for someone going to a sporting event in Pittsburgh.

“Good, not Great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2011

I've stayed here a LOT on business, and it's generally fine/comfortable as a business hotel: free Wi-Fi, spacious, udpated rooms, coffee/breakfast bar, business center, decent fitness center, attractive lobby. Room service is available from the Sonoma Grille next door, which is one of the best restaurants downtown. The rooms were all redone in the past year. Not super elegant, but at least new. Large, with high ceilings, reasonably attractive (not sure about the busy wallpaper), comfortably furnished. That said, it's still possible to get a stuffy room with a funny smell. Cleanliness is generally good.

The rooms facing the courtyard (even numbers) tend to be quieter (but can get A/C noise in the summer), not much of a view, though the windows open some so you can let some fresh air in. The outside rooms (odd numbers) can get quite a bit of street noise at all hours of the night (windows don't open). Some have lovely city views, some have less than lovely views of the Convention Center right next door. The higher floors (say, 5-9) generally have better views.

The bathrooms are large and up-to-date, with granite countertops. The towels are among the poorest quality I've run across in a business hotel. The soaps and other toiletries are nothing special. Also, the bedsheets are always wrinkled, which leaves a less-than-great impression.

The location is excellent. Right next door to the Convention Center, an easy walk over the river to the baseball stadium, a more invigorating walk to the football stadium.

Some of the staff have been very friendly and accommodating (particularly front desk and Bistro), although it has just turned over some. Doormen are friendly, though not always present.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the courtyard (even numbers) tend to be quieter (but can get A/C noise in the summe...
