our son is starting college in the fall at near by Robert Morris University. We decided to explore the area by staying overnight and treating ourselves to a king jacuzzi room at this hotel. The first thiing that we do after checking into any hotel room is pull back the sheets on the bed and look for bedbugs. Unfortunately, we found one and promptly put a glass over it and called the front desk. Our room was changed and the new one was bug free but we were left feeling uncomfortable about the hotel. The jacuzzi tub could have been cleaner. We filled it up and ran it twice before the water was free of floating bits of ? Also in both the rooms, the locks on the sliding glass doors to the pool area were broken with only a eye and hook type latch keeping it secure. So even though our room rate was reduced by 50%,we would so much rather have had a nicer room and better overall experience at this hotel.

I would like to Thank you for your comments and suggestions for our Hotel. I was Manager on duty the weekend you stayed. When I arrived at work, I was told of the "Bedbug". Myself and our Housekeeping Manager went to the room in question and found the Glass on the bed. We both are trained in spotting Bedbugs. In our opinion it was not a Bedbug, but to absoutley sure, we put the bug in the glass you had over it and had a expert look at it.It was confirmed that it was not a Bedbug. We also looked for all the signs of Bedbugs infesting a room and found none. If you find one, there are always more and we found none. We respect your comments and want to assure you that it was not a Bedbug. Thank you for staying with us and we hope to have you back. I can be reached at the Hotel number if you would like to talk to me.

Respectfully,

Ralph Davis,

Director of Sales

“Great Place to Crash for One Night on the Road”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

We made our reservation here because it had the lowest pet fee in the area, $25 per pet and we had two small dogs with us. We were driving from NC to NY on December 23, 2011 and this was our stop over. We were given a room on the first floor and since I am a Platinum member and used points, they upgraded us to a one bedroom suite, which was fantastic. We were at the back and our window did not face the parking lot, which was perfect. It wasn't far from the door outside so it was easy to walk the dogs when needed. The room was a bit dark; however it was clean. The only issue is the toilet was right against the wall and every time I stood up it would bang against the wall!. The only problem we had was a room around the corner was having what seemed to be a party and we could hear every word. We even heard them say "I hear a dog barking" because they were so loud they scared the dogs! We ended up calling the front desk and within 10 minutes they stopped being so loud.

Room Tip: If you bring pets, ask for a first floor room with a window that doesn't face the parking lot!

“Just Average”

I'm a big fan of Holiday Inn Express, mainly because they have the best free breakfast for these types of hotels. Most of them are fresh and newer. But this hotel seems old and outdated. Colors are very drab. I heard someone say that it used to be branded under another name. I thought it was overpriced for what you get. But breakfast was good, and theres a Damon's next door.

“Adequate, but not by Much”

I'm a little late in writing this. Stayed end of October 2011, but can't imagine much has changed. I looked at a lot of hotels in this area on Tripadvisor and none had much in the way of outstanding ratings, but this one seemed a little better and we have had good success with HIE in the past. The staff was friendly and helpful. Checkin took less than 5 minutes. We were given a ground floor room - 129 - I believe. Upon entering the room the first thing that strikes you is how old and worn the furniture and decor was. I wasn't expecting the Ritz, but often when you stay at HIE, the room doesn't really look like a hotel room. This one did. The other real downer was how dirty the bathroom was. I think there was more hair on the floor and in the bath tub than there is on my head. We should've called the front desk, but didn't have the time, as we were on our way somewhere. We put towels down on the floor and didn't use the shower/tub. jAlso, the heater/ac was noisy and uneven. The hallways, stairways, everything just looked old and unkempt. Kind of surprising to us. Doubt we would stay here again.

Room Tip: Avoid ground floor. Check cleanliness before you unpack.

“Close to airport and lots of malls”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

This hotel was located close to many of the malls/shops and restaurants. The hotel had basic facilities like a small gym and outdoor pool and great staff.
Need to use the hotel van to get to most of the places - there was one Sports bar and restaurant a walk away.

Room Tip: Try not to be on the ground floor as the car park is right outside so can be a little noisy with the...

Thanks for taking the time to respond to the survey. I appreciate your input regarding the 1st floor noise issue. I'll call our refuse removal company and see if we can get a more appropriate time.

Sincerely,

Dave Hutchison
