I must admit that I was very intrigued upon booking this hotel. For starters, its website touts its proximity to the "Hot Metal Bridge." I, mean, WOW, a Hot Metal Bridge! In addition, its website touts the Pittsburgh southside as the place to be for bars and entertainment. I must admit, these attributes were dead on.
The hotel is typical of the Springhill Suites brand. Bright colors and a contemporary feel radiate from the lobby. The attention to detail and cleanliness, after all, are what set Marriott brands apart from the others. We had a 2 queen bed suite, with very comfortable beds, a flat screen television, and more than enough space to house about 15 more people on the floor. (ahem, we are too old to do such, but the thought did cross my mind that this would be a good spot for college kids to pile in about 15 people). A train runs very nearby. Frankly, I think it runs right below the hotel somehow. It was not all that bothersome, though.
The hotel sits, basically, on the campus of American Eagle Outfitters headquarters, which is in a mixed use development with a variety of retail and dining establishments. The walk to the southside bar district is about a mile. After a night of barhopping though, the distance reduces.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone that is visiting Pittsburgh or just stopping for the night!!!!!
