I have often come to the Inn on the Mexican War Streets as a couple, but sadly returned to bury my partner. Found solace and comfort in the warmth of the Inn. And found many other travelers out on their own as well, many of them women happy for the security of the setting.
Tops for Business or Romance. 5 Minute walk to the National Aviary, the Warhol Museum, the eclectic Mattress Factory with its installation art, as well as all of Downtown Pittsburgh.
This historic neighborhood is full of classic Victorian architecture and history. Gertrude Stein and Martha Graham were born here, just a few blocks from that big handsome stone porch out in front.
I go for morning coffee in the rain sitting out front facing those giant elm trees in the park.
And a glass of wine or champagne in the late summer evening before turning in for the night.

A great alternative to the hotel scene. Very friendly, beautiful inn across from a park where you can go kayaking in a small lake. If you stay for 2 nights, the price goes down significantly. Breakfast is "do it yourself", but with a great selection (including a waffle iron) and variety of settings where you can eat. We chose the back patio one day and huge front porch the next. We will return to the Inn on Mexican War Street.

The Inn on Mexican War Streets is a very interesting little b&b. The Inn keepers are very nice. The hotel itself is a little worn around the edges, showers are a little dingy, fixtures are older, but it is an older hotel so I guess that is to be expected. There are tons of little kitchy elements in each room that provide a chuckle at the very least. We stayed there as part of a wedding that was at the Mattress Factory and since the hotel is walking distance from the Mattress Factory that was great.

The neighborhood seemed to be a little on the sketchy side, but people said that the neighborhood was actually in the process of turning around.

IF you are looking to be close to bars and restaurants I wouldn't pick this hotel, but for a quick weekend stay it was fine.

We were very impressed with the beautiful room, garden and house. Karl was an excellent host. The only let down was the fact that the breakfast on day 2 was identical to day 1 and appeared to be whatever was left over ( down to the knife still being embedded in the loaf of bread). This is a minor complaint and did nothing to diminish our enthusiasm to return. Was easy to walk into Pittsburgh and to get to the PNC Park.
