“Nice for the Price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Picked the hotel via Hotwire as we wanted to stay in town after an afternoon Penguin game. We chose the 4 star hotel for only $100 and it turned out to be the Westin (hotwire doesn't allow you to see the hotel name prior to purchase). We were able to get a parking space near the PAT bus garage entrance just off of Grant. Parking was only $5 and the walk to the Westin for just across the street. Check in was quick and friendly. Ron (i think) could not have been nicer or helpful. Room was very spacious and we were lucky enough to have a window that overlooked our vehicle near Grant St. Bathroom was nice and the shower had a two-headed shower which was FANTASTIC. The bed was comfortable, however the comforter on top was extremely heavy. It was very restricting. The room was clean, however if you looked beyond the surface, you could find several issues. The sink in the bathroom was coming apart from the counter, the hinges on the doors were rusting, and there was a lot of dust in the corners of the room. None of these issues took away from a great stay...I only point them out for those who are fanatical about their rooms. Check out in the morning was quick and friendly as well. We'll be back....hopefully we can get the room again for the same price.

Thank you for the review of your recent stay. We are fortunate to be located close to many of the downtown Pittsburgh attractions including the Consol Energy Center, home of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Our location also allows our guestrooms to have different options of views for each different traveler. We are very pleased to hear about your experience with our Heavenly Bath and the Speakman Dual Showerhead. We do appreciate all feedback, and we have just completed the process of renewing all of our guestrooms. Again, thank you for your post, and we hope to have you back soon.

Be well,
Becca

“Old, dirty, screams 'clean me'”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I've traveled here quite a few times and found it to be old and dirty. Sadly, it doesn't seem to be improving. On my recent visit the guestroom was generally fine, but the bathroom was just gross. There was clomps of hair on the dryer, the showerhead looked corroded, the shower curtain had some filth on it that looked like snot.

They have this goofy green initiative to mask their cheapness. The room requires a key or other plastic card to keep the motion sensor going to keep the room hvac and lights going. They only give you two big bath towels if you're in a king guestroom.

When I travel, I don't travel to be green, I travel for business and leisure. Perhaps I'd want to be green if I were camping, but everything the hotel is doing is simply to save a buck.

The iron and ironing board were filthy too. What irks me the most is that these are easy appliances and hardware that can be swapped out quite simply.

Additionally the television's software package is quite old and doesn't work with the modern LodgeNet apps. The front desk staff warned me it probably wouldn't, but come on, keep up-to-date with things like this.

To read other reviews that this place is available on Priceline and Hotwire should be everything you need to know about this hotel.

Room Tip: Tip to help travelers choose a good room???? Try the Fairmount or Renaissance

Thank you for your recent post about your trip to our property. We appreciate all feedback, and we are sorry to hear about your stay. We are currently completing our guestroom renewal, and shortly all of our guestrooms will be entirely refreshed. I would like to assure you that we are taking appropriate actions to ensure that the appliances and hardware in each guestroom are always working. Thank you for pointing out our green initiatives. The entergize system is just one of the many ways that we save energy here at the hotel. We also have options for those travelers who do not wish to make a green choice. We hope that you consider our property again in the future as we are working diligently on creating a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere for your return visit.

Be Well,

Becca

“Nickel - Dime ya....”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We were there for the Pittsburgh World of Wheels, and this was the host hotel with a special rate which was very substantially discounted, from $200 a nite, however, that's where it ended. After that, they just "nickel-dimed" us: Parking is $20. a day. Room service has an extra $2.50 delivery fee added, on top of the tip (that's what a tip is for, delivering the meal to the room, right?) so a Burger n fries $20. (no burger is worth that...try $8.) Breakfast was $60 for 4 people. (come on folks, eggs and pancakes not a large investment) Internet wifi was $9.95 per day (lucky I brought my hot spot). Dinner downstairs at the Fish Market was $80 for one person. And the "new fangled stick your key in the wall" to make the lights and heat work totally uncessary. Lucky they don't charge you a "toll" to go through the revolving door. Go across the river or through the tunnel to a more reasonable hotel, where there's complimentary breakfasts, free wifi and free parking and leave the Westin to think of another way to nickel dime you to death.

Room Tip: Great view from all rooms, 'course they should be for $200 a nite!

“Nice hotel, good nights sleep - but bad smell”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

You know what? This is a fantastic hotel, except one thing. It smelled like bad body odor.
I asked them to put air freshener in my room while I went out for dinner.

It did not help. It was not my room specifically that smelled, but the whole floor.

Anyhow, I got used to it, and slept okay. Other than the smell, it is a nice place.

“Not a good Westin bathroom”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012
1
person found this review helpful

A fairly average Westin with a decent room. The bathroom didn't live up to Heavenly standards with old fixtures. Worst part is the tub didn't drain well so I enjoyed a shower with water up to my ankles. But if you're in town for business and are Starwood its a great location.
