“Excellent Value Convenient to City”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

Stayed here for a couple of nights and cost was so reasonable we booked two rooms for our party of 4. Was pleased with the amenities in the rooms and had no complaints, except pool was covered, although weather was good. In a quiet neighborhood and older, but well maintained. Staff was friendly and helpful with directions etc. Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: good value with clear access to Pittsburgh

“Simple and clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011 via mobile

I stayed here for three nights and have no complaints. It appeared that the room had been remodelled not too long ago. Basic amenities- loveseat, fridge, microwave, tv. My room was in "drive 1" and wonder if the recent negative review was from one of the rooms in the back (drive 3, I think) that looked like they were currently in the process of being remodelled.

The hotel is relatively close to downtown- just hop on the parkway and shoot through the tunnel, and it's close to the Robinson shopping area. There's also a King's restaurant next door that's very convenient.

All in all, I'd recommend this hotel and say to maybe request a room in "drive 1" that has been remodelled.

“quiet and comfy”

Fairly near interstate, really not near the downtown Pittsburgh and I think it was a good drive outside of the "main" drag. Place was OK I think a lot of construction workers were staying there as the place had all kinds of dirt/mud clumps from shoes all around. Other than that it was fairly clean. There did seem to be some stores (strip mall) right below the hotel but we did not go as it was so late. Just an overnite stay passing through.

“For when sleeping in the street is not an option...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

I chose this place because we had to go with a Choice hotel, and this one amazingly had the best reviews of all the Pittsburgh Choice hotels. Going back and reading the reviews again, I feel like the victim of a practical joke. I honestly think some people are talking about the wrong motel. But I double-checked the address, so I'm sure this is the place we stayed in. I am a budget traveler--I'm always the one that overlooks problems because hey, you get what you pay for. But this place was like a bad dream...

We arrived and were turned off by the seediness--obviously was another nameless motel until it was repackaged by Choice into Econo Lodge. But unfortunately, we went ahead and checked in. Our (first) room was... gross. We walked in, took a whiff, and walked out. It smelled liked mildew and mold, which I'm hoping was due to a carpet cleaning that was left wet. But who knows what it really was. We requested a room change--something I have never done--and got one in a different building. This room's moldy smell was less overpowering, and given a lack of available rooms anywhere else (thanks, U2 concert) we decided to stick it out for one night.

Where to begin with the room? Okay, so the place is old (recent remodel? Fresh paint and new beds? I don't think so...) It has the dingy appearance of a tired old nameless motel that would be the backdrop of a slasher movie. Drab paint, broken furniture and bare bones all around. There were a few dust cobwebs in the corners, and all in all, just a sad little room. The air conditioning worked, even though the TV didn't (to be fair, it probably did work, we just couldn't tell because the buttons on the remote were missing). The room actually had a refrigerator and microwave, amazingly, although due to an uneven floorboard, everything fell out of the fridge when you opened the door. The carpet had multiple burns, so apparently it was a smoking room, even though we were told it wasn't.

The bathroom, well, back to basics here. Nothing dirty, but tiny. Oh, and hope you're less than five feet tall, because otherwise you'll have to scrunch down in the shower if you want to wash anything above your chest. Of course, there's always the option of standing outside in the rain, because the water pressure was about the same. We also had ONE roll of toilet paper (for three adults) which meant going to get some more from the front desk at 2am. We could have used a bath towel instead in an emergency, but we only got two (again, for three adults). I think the bed sheets were clean, but the bed itself was a rock (big surprise). We managed to survive the night, but by morning we were all pretty jealous of the baby--at least she got a decent night's sleep in her pack and play.

So, bottom line, if you like dirty, moldy, drab motel rooms, hate taking showers, sleeping and breathing fresh air, and possibly have no sense of smell (or sight, or touch... everything sounded okay though, so you'd be fine there), then this is definitely the place for you! Otherwise, cough up an extra few bucks and go somewhere else. Or sleep in your car.

Room Tip: stay in a different hotel

“Clean and quiet remodled motel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2010

Located off I-79 on a hill side, the Econolodge provided a pleasant stay. you can tell this is an older motel that has been remodeled. While the rooms show age by design, they were refreshed with new paint & beds. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable.

Staff was very friendly and the coffee was nice and hot in the morning for breakfast. Would not hesitate to stay again.
