My first "encounter" with the facility was at Check-In was most pleasant and smooth sailing; I had called to confirm earlier and to let them know that I DID request a SMOKING ROOM and that I had a 7 lbs Service Dog with me. When I checked in at 1015 PM, I was given my room keys and went to the 3rd floor and noticed ALL the NO SMOKING signs on the doors. After entering the room, the room was FILLED with NO SMOKING signs so I immediately called downstairs and was told "Don't worry about it, stop down and we'll give you ashtrays but all the nonsmoking rooms were filled so you will have to smoke in that room". I don't think that is fair to non-smoker and was very disappointed. Then I opened the kitchen cabinets to get a cup for water for my dog and found a coffee mug that someone must have microwaved tomato soup in for FAR too long; nasty and disgusting. What have I got myself into was my thoughts. The room was QUITE large but does not look like the photos, there are no fake plants, large faux trees and all the cute decorative items as shown, but everything else is identical. The heating/cooling system leaves SO much to be desired. I either was roasting even though the heat was OFF and had the window cracked open at 37 degrees outside: or I had to put the air on - after 5 days could find no comfortable setting with their wall unit. The breakfast is wonderful if you want the SAME muffins or plain bagels EVERY SINGLE DAY. I casually opened up one of the drawers in the bathroom to literally find it glued together with a piece of old cardboard and adhesive - really, this is the kind of mickey mouse maintenance dept this place has? As I walked my dog, with bags in hand to pick up as I always do, you have to be careful of the plentiful landmines throughout the grounds as others apparently do not pick up after their dogs. Very quiet, ONLY two carts to get your luggage in & out and very scarce in the morning or evenings when people are coming and going. Staff is pretty much absent, as I only once saw a housekeeping cart, never heard a vacuum, and rarely saw the front desk attendant despite the alarm buzzer going on and off everytime I took the dog outside - MIA from the front desk. I have had 4 back surgeries and the beds were horribly painful, slept one night in the reclining chair for a few hours. I would stay again if I was in the area but they really need to spend some money and upgrade the place inside and out - the TV are literally antiques, I had maybe a 23" OLD TV for the entire suite - barely could see it from the kitchen and that is just NOT acceptable for the price of stay and typical accomodations today anywhere you travel. I don't know anyone that still has a dinosaur TV like this one anymore. The lighting is poor throughout the entire room, except the bathroom. The kitchen was nice sized, room to cook and a counter top I'm assuming for people to eat at, however, no seats? A desk area, coffee table, two queen beds, and I did not look any further in the kitchen cupboards as I did not want to see any other dishes in that nasty condition but had already brought paper plates, etc. Full size refrigerator on it's last leg and did not get very cold, so toggled things on the top shelf to ensure proper temperature and then used the freezer and microwave the most. I had 3 forks, 3 knifes and ONE spoon - how does that work? There is NO check in list for what you are responsible for and if the facility is going to leave items in the room that you are responsible for, I WANT to be able to tell them what WAS there when I checked in and what was there when I left and NOT BE HELD responsible; so I will have to wait and see if I get charged for missing items but it wasn't me, I used plastic ware. Pittsburgh has the worst motel/hotel system in the USA. All are overpriced and it never fails when I come back into town, as I lived here for 40 years, you can't find a place that can accomodate you for more than a few days at a time; so I ended being bounced around to 4 diff. places for an 8 day trip - that's a nightmare lugging in and lugging out and moving again. This place would go for half the price in Las Vegas and most other cities; but it sure beats many, many other places in Pittsburgh that I have made the mistake of booking at - so overall, I would stay at again but definitely photograph the room when you check in so that you can prove WHAT was there and was damage was present when you assumed responsibility. Quiet place and lots of restaurants, stores and anything you can need is all around you so extremely convenient to anything you can possibly need - every MAJOR store, a MALL, grocery store 2 minutes away, and you can walk across the street to get a meal. They definitely need to get MORE signage for the place; as unless you are approaching it from the one way there are NO signs whatsoever letting you know where you are and many places are called Extended Suites in Robinson Twp area - at least 4 that I drove by in a matter of 2 miles today - so a bit tricky - go to 2nd street that has street name and THEN there is a sign you can read that says Extended Stay, but if you take the first Chauvet Street and go around the tiny circle - there is NO indication where you are, just an ENTER HERE sign.
