“Good choice for your business meeting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I presented a two-day program in this hotel and was extremely pleased with their ability to handle everything professionally and efficiently. The entire hotel is being remodeled and they seem to be doing a good job. It's not the most luxurious facility and the restaurant is nothing to write home about, but the Banquet Department's meals were excellent. Everyone from the bellman to the set-up people to the Banquet waitress went out of their way to be helpful and cheerful. I enjoyed the stay.

“Upgraded Since Last Visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I last visited this hotel about 2 years ago. I found it adequate back then but not a great value; rooms were a bit dated and they seemed to nickle and dime for everything. On this visit, the WiFi was free which was a nice change of pace from my prior visit. There's even a PC in the lobby where boarding passes etc. can be printed free of charge.

The rooms are also much nicer than before, having undergone an upgrade recently. The lobby is still in the process of being upgraded. It's a much better overall value than before.

Staff is very friendly and accommodating. All in all, I'd certainly return.

“A good night's rest”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

I have stayed at this Marriott at least 10 nights in over the past 2 years, for business. The main reasons for choosing it have been proximity to my consulting client, a generous corporate discount and my preference for the Marriott rewards program. The hotel itself is generally efficient and well run. Rooms and halls have been upgraded over the last 2 years - I have always stayed in the "renovated rooms" and found them to be uniformly clean, nicely set up (computer tables, good network connections, coffee makers, etc.).

The fitness center, while small in comparison to other properties, seems to be adequate for the number of fitness oriented guests (Pittsburghers are not known for their healthy lifestyles). The restaurant and bar are ordinary and a bit pricy - but do have some decent salad and not too calorie laden entree choices). Marriott Silver elites get a coupon on arrival for a free continental breakfast buffet - which is worth taking up if you like to start the day off with a good fruit salad, etc. - as you will have trouble finding that elsewhere in Pittsburgh.

The "City Center" location name is deceptive. "Highway Center" would be more accurate as it is located on a urban Island between the Crosstown expressway and some major traffic filled streets. Not much fun to walk to, dragging a roller board on a rainy or snowy day. Its located just East of the Downtown triangle, which means its as schlep to get to anything but Steel Plaza and the Consol Arena. There is a free shuttle service that will take you around downtown - though there can be a pretty big wait at peak times. If there is a Penguin game starting or ending, don't event think about taking a taxi in or out.

I had room service once, when I arrived very late and the restaurant had closed. While the food was fine, the service was extremely slow. I would have been better off eating my emergency power bars and grabbing breakfast in the AM. Other than that, I have nothing to complain about. Its a fine hotel at the corp discount price, but if I had to pay anything close to rack rate I would say Marriott pts be damned and stay elsewhere.

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter.

“The people who work there are wonderful, accommodating, friendly & hotel is beautiful!”

To begin, we're avid priceliners & booked this room through Priceline...

Bartenders Bob & John were exceptionally friendly & genuinely concerned for our familys welfare (we were staying b/c my mother-in-law is in the hospital).

The staff, from Housekeeping, front desk, concierge, janitor, valet EVERYONE else was amazing!!

The GM & owners should be so proud of their staff b/c they truly were the best we've come across & we stay I'm hotels monthly, sometimes more.

They are also doing renovations but by no means was service nor functionality affected!

We look forward to our next visit (under different circumstances) to see the new lobby, bar & facilities!

Btw-location is great!! It's steps away from the Console Arena where the Pens play & other bars, restaurants, etc!

Thanks for a meeting all of our expectations & then some!

“Lives up to it's world wide recognised reputation for excellence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

A proffesionaly run hotel with extremely helpful & friendly staff, who's 'Can do' attitude made our stay. No request was to much trouble & the shuttle bus was a fantastic facility of which we used each day. Our room was exactly as described but more than we anticipated. Yes the bathrooms are on the small side, however unless you are going to spend most of your stay in it, they meet the needs & we would prefer to have a larger living area. Breakfast was of a very good quality & yes the price may be slightly steep, however you can help yourself & it sets you up for the day. There is a friendly bar, not over expensive & the Starbucks on site is an added extra, especially if you only want a light snack at any time. I suppose everyone has there own personal standards but we felt this was an excellent hotel, well positioned & we shall be returning. "Go Steelers" Bill & Rachel Parry Of England
