I enjoy 'charm' and expect some adjustments when choosing 'boutique' lodging. But -- no operational Wi-Fi, cold showers, malfunctioning toilet, leaking ceiling, back-killing mattress, unadvertised parking fee tacked on to already exorbitant price, workout room consisting of some dusty treadmills in a storage closet style room along with a crib and other assorted junk, no notice before arrival that the restaurant on premises when we booked had closed,... and one day we returned in the evening to find our room hadn't even been cleaned (and couldn't be by that point, and really needed it because we had accepted just changing out or towels the day before rather than a standard cleaning). The young staff left in charge without the power or expertise to take care of the situation they have been unfairly left alone with doesn't deserve to bear the pain for what seems to be a case of absent, failing owners. And I see that some other reviewers have attempted to get to actual management for redress to no avail. If the price had even been dropped to compensate for all of the issues we experienced, I would at least feel the owners might have some interest in maintaining a good reputation. I usually do better at researching reviews before booking, and I'll take a lesson from this uncomfortable stay. The only positive aspect of this lodging is its location, but other places just a couple of blocks further from campus are far superior and far more fairly priced. (And the walk to coffee shops to use Internet offset the location advantage anyway.)
