“This hotel was great, meeting all our needs and in a very pleasant downtown location.”

America's Best Value Inn and Suites has been a hotel chain we have used once before. Both experiences were very good. In Oil City we arrived after a drive which began in CT....a very long day. It was a pleasure to find an excellent restaurant in the hotel itself...no going to Mickey D's or casting about for a suitable eatery! We ate there both nights. And the breakfast buffet! The waffle maker was the best we've encountered--that alone will bring my husband back! And there was a fine variety of toastables, cereals and fruits.

The room was generous in size--two double beds, fridge, table and chairs, plenty of room to set up our computers with no cumbersome access codes. Our dog was very happy to have plenty of room for her bed too under the generous extended vanity counter outside the bathroom

. The hotel is set adjacent to a lovely park at the side of the Allegheny River so we were able to walk in very pleasant circumstances with the river and sculptures on our route.

Being downtown we were in walking distance to many historic buildings from the period when oil was discovered and we enjoyed the present uses of some buildings--National Transit building as an artists' enclave with studios and shops and the old post office a science museum. We will plan to return to the in with it's very pleasant and attentive staff on our next trip to visit relatives in IN.

“Pretty Decent Hotel for the price”

My wife, 2yo son, and I were travelling to visit friends in the area on Labor Day Weekend, even with a late booking, we were able to get a room at this hotel. Location is pretty good, there is a McDonald's next door in case you don't want the hotel restaraunt or breakfast (we never tried either, just due to timing). Granted, this hotel wasn't the Ritz or a resort, but for being a pretty cheap hotel, it was not a dissapointment. Rooms were quite clean, didn't have any problems with neighbors, staff was friendly when we dealt with them. I can agree parts of the hotel had a "musty" smell...namely the elevators, which are old style, wood panelling. I didn't have an issue with the smell, but my wife who was pregnant had to hold her breath a little. Hallways had an odd smell to me, but that could also be because half of them are outside, half enclosed, but the doors to the enclosed part are left open.

The only negative I can offer is the toilet flushing was kind've weak, so you had to flush multiple times.

We were just looking for a room to stay in, so our expectations weren't too high, but this was certainly better than most non-chain hotel/motel places I have seen. The price was definitley better than most places to stay in the area.

“Good hotel, great location”

Having read some bad reviews of this hotel, we were pleasantly surprised. Our room had a beautiful river view, overlooking parkland. The price was possibly higher than warranted, but I could not fault the room--large, clean, with comfortable beds and furnishing. The bathroom was equipped with excellent bars fto assist the disabled in the bath, though the one by the toilet was unstable and possibly dangerous if needed for full support. Dinner and service in the restaurant were outstanding, and continental breakfast very good, with good choice, including waffles. Whatever we requested--extra pillows, towels, etc., we received willingly. There is obviously an upgrade going on, but disturbance minimal and result good. As a disabled visitor, I found the sets of double doors, with no automatic openers, very difficult, even though I had someone with me. The owner was not helpful in this regard, although he was usually sitting at the desk; he appeared oblivious to our plight. A wheelchair traveller on his own could not manage in the hotel as it is. All in all, I would recommend this hotel as a good experience. The owners are obviously determined to improve and upgrade. Well done.

“Never Again!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2009

It is very sad that in such a beautiful city we had to have such a poor experience. I will never stay there again and make sure that anyone I know will not stay there. They were very rude to my family and I! We felt like we were not welcome. We also had other family in other rooms and they got the same response from them. We ended up leaving our vacation early because we didn’t want to stay there any longer. I thought the rooms were dirty, but they didn’t smell. We had a prob. with our shower so had to go to our other families room to take one. In an economy like this any hotel should welcome their guests with smiling faces and good service. Not only for their business but to help out their community. Hopefully if we decide to visit this beautiful city again we can find a better hotel that is happy to have us, but for now I think I will be looking other places.

“Definitely worth the money”

The Arlington has a lot of history and is the only hotel in Oil City. Although renovations have been done, there are still some outdated and unfinished parts of the hotel. However, the price is right and the rooms are clean and spacious. The room extras (shampoo etc.) are a bit on the cheap side but not a big deal, but they do offer free high speed internet.
