We happened upon this Comfort Inn while traveling from one destination to the next for an overnight stay when our first-choice hotel in Mars/Cranberry Twp was totally booked for the night and its front desk clerk recommended Comfort Inn a few blocks away.
I will say that the hotel's arrangement with several area restaurants (and there are many) to offer 10-15-percent discounts to its guests was very much appreciated. We had a satisfactory meal at Max & Erma's just down the block and saved a little money by showing our Comfort Inn room key cards to the server.
Like a previous reviewer, we stayed on the fifth floor and were met getting off the elevator with a strong smell of curry. I like curry, generally, but the scent was pretty overwhelming. Even worse, the hallway was super-uncomfortably warm, and unfortunately, so was our hotel room. The A/C in the room was shut completely off -- on the fifth floor in August, mind you, when we first keyed in -- and it took about 6-8 hours of running it at full blast before the room began to feel somewhat comfortable.
I don't expect a lot from a hotel when I am paying under $100 a night, but I DO expect a clean room. The Comfort Inn in Mars/Cranberry Twp did not offer that.
I found granola and long black hair in my bed between the sheets. I was completely grossed out and, in the morning, actually elected not to shower when I discovered more black hair in the tub. My husband did use the shower, however, and complained that the tub/shower diverter knob was broken so that half his shower water actually came out the tub faucet. The tile grout in the bathroom floor was really dirty and the room's window glass was filthy and gross.
There are also safety concerns about this hotel. First, they have the coffee maker on the counter in the bathroom and there is absolutely no way to arrange it for use so that the plug cord is not draped across the bathroom sink. Second, our room door did not fully swing closed behind us. We had to remember to pull it shut. Third, one of the elevators "lurched" or sort of "dropped" whenever you got in, as the doors were shutting, which made me a little uneasy and I noticed that the elevator's inspection certificate was about to expire in only a few weeks. It's also not a great sign when you can see that an elevator's emergency phone compartment is open and the cord is sprawling out as if someone had recently used it.
Other minor quibbles involved the TV -- the remote control's battery compartment latch was broken/missing, so the batteries were taped into place; and the channel guide in the room did not actually match the television channels.
Overall, I cannot recommend.
