Stayed in the Goldrush Motel on the Queens Birthday long wekend. I was with my husband and 7 year old and we had just had a 6 hour road trip. I was a little apprehensive staying here as it was cheaper than other places in Young and it did look a little dated in pictures.
But I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the furnishings were picked by someone stuck in the 80's and the bathroom is a testament to 1970s decore however, it was very clean, warm and every thing worked.
I knew they had a microwave in the room so had pre-made our dinner at home and heated it up in the microwave - no expensive takeaways (so a saving there as well). The surprise for me was that they also supplied 3 x bowls, side plates, dinner plates, knike, fork spoon, AND a toaster, bread board, cutting knife and to top it off, a dish cloth! The only thing missing was dish washing liquid - LOL!
The aircon worked and was quiet, the water hot, oh and they even supplied a draught excluder to put behind the door to keep the cold air out! Another bonus was the ironing board and iron in our room. Ive stayed in much swankier establishments that cost alot more than this motel and I didnt get that. I didnt look at the pool so cant comment there.
We had a 6 hour drive to get to Young and were only in town to pick up a puppy the morning after our stay in the Goldrush Motel, so with the expense of buying a pedigree puppy & petrol, we didnt want to spend alot of money. Staying there actually saved us more money as we didnt have to eat takeaways or buy breakfast.
Now, criticisims..... Im struggling to give some but I like to give the good with the bad when I do reviews so.........
1.We stayed in a room at the front part of the motel. It was quiet because it was a long weekend but I could here trucks when they went past so I guess if it was busy, that could be a problem with rooms at the front.
2. The beds had these limp, awfull looking cushions on them that we instantly banished to the wardrobe. They sort of matched the curtains so I guess that is why they were there. My advice to the owners LOOSE THE RIDICULOUS CUSHIONS. They are unnecessary and frankly take away from the cleanliness and value for money that the motel gives.
3. The view from our window was on to the side of the property with a "almost about to fall down" fence about 3 metres from the window. Im guessing that gardening isnt where the owners talents lay as there were old plastic pots and a large piece of plastic water pipe lying around outside our window. If the owners got rid of the dead pots, threw some red bark or stone down, it would pick up the look of the motel greatly.
So, would I stay there again?????
Most definitely. Good value, clean, comfortable and great extras that you wont get in dearer motels. If you like to pay an extra $100 for more up to date decore, stay some where else. With the value it gives, I honestly dont know why this place isnt booked up constantly.
