“25th Anniversary Celebration-NYE Murder Mystery Weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

My wife and I were lucky to catch a cancellation to get away from our overscheduled lives and attend the New Years Eve Murder Mystery event at the Packer Mansion. We had participated in the murder mystery weekend about 10 years ago and looked forward to the change of pace and time for renewal. On learning that we had been there previously, Bob picked a mystery that we or other guests had not yet experienced. We arrived around 7p after having an excellent dinner at Moya in town. We were cheerfully greeted by Taylor who checked us in and showed us to our room.

This time we stayed in the Carriage House. The room was great, clean, with an electric fireplace for ambiance. There is a coffee/tea station in the hallway with a small refridgerator and water, making access convenient. You can park right outside the Carriage House for easy loading/unloading.

We made it to Libations in the main lounge by 8p, where Taylor and Kristen were hosting. They offered great selections and service. By 9p, we joined 9 other couples to begin the mystery in the parlor. Bob assigned roles as the context for the mystery was revealed. He seemed to have unique insight in matching personalities to roles. Everyone was engaged as the mystery began.

The next morning, coffee/tea were available by 830a when we arrived and a great breakfast was served at 9a, where we mingled with other guests and learned more about the characters. The mystery continued at 1030, loaded with interesting local history, and ended by lunchtime. We walked downtown and explored the town, had a great lunch and returned.

By 630p we dressed for dinner and met with other guests for drinks in the mansion. Pat served an excellent dinner and Kristen offered the perfect wine recommendation. As the murder mystery wrapped up after dinner, we enjoyed the surprise ending and the character development supplied by guests.

At 1130p, we gathered with our new friends to welcome in the new year and celebrate our 25 years together. At 1155p, Taylor and Kristen served a champagne toast and the guests had donned the hats and selected noise makers. As we watched the ball drop, a full celebration was underway.

The next morning, coffee/tea were available by 830a as we arrived downstairs and Pat served another wonderful breakfast. Checkout was a breeze and as we said goodbye to our new friends and hosts, we were fully relaxed, renewed, and recharged. Who knows what 2012 will bring, but this was a great way to start the new year.

We can only recommend the Harry Packer Mansion Inn as a great weekend get away and celebration destination.

“Amazing step out of reality!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011 via mobile

My husband and I needed a getaway in order to reconnect and rekindle our romance! The Murder Mystery provided an amazing opportunity to play a part in an entertaining and intriguing historical fiction! What fun! Our host Bob was a hoot! Oh, and the romance? I fell in love with my husband all over again! I highly recommend Harry Packer Mansion as a getaway for couples! While you are there, you MUST participate in the Murder Mystery. Bring another couple or two! The more "suspects" the merrier!

“A Packard Monologue”

I was surprised with a trip to the lovely town of Jim Thorpe, and a stay at the Harry Packard Mansion for a Murder Mystery weekend. The town is lovely and quaint. The mansion grand, though in need of continued restoration. (peeling wall paper, visible mildew in one room) The food provided was fair - buffet style for both breakfast and Satuday night dinner, which left some of the food 'tepid' in temperature. Of more concern was the amount of time occupied by the murder mystery. After driving 5 hours on Friday, we were kept awake until after 11 listening to Bob do a monolgue about the Packards and hand out parts - some people truly fell asleep! Another 2 hours of mystery after breakfast on Saturday didn't get us out to see the town until early afternoon...... And we were expected back in the dining room Saturday evening around 6, leaving not much time to explore. After Saturday night's dinner, we were again herded into the small room to listen to Bob solve the mystery - because there really was no rhyme or reason to the story he was weaving, or any relavence to the parts he had handed out. Spending 6 to 7 hours sitting in that room listening to Bob spin the Packard story was way too much. It was a wonderful weekend for me because of the thought behind it, but from an execution stand point of the Inn - a C+ at best.

I am sorry you did not enjoy the murder mystery. Bob truly loves what he does and maybe he was "over the top" for your tastes. I think as I read the review, the problem was that most of our guests are looking forward to the weekend and enjoying the history, stories and other guests. This for you was a "surprise" and I could tell when you checked in not quite what you had in mind.
I am concerned about the mildew and wallpaper comment, we have contacted you several times to try and find out where it was so we can fix it.
We have not gotten any response and turned the place upside down trying to find the issue, and can't find anything.
We pride ourselves on a beautiful mansion that is spotless and as current as we can make it without hurting it's original glory. From the granite in the bathrooms, 770 count sheets, feather beds, wifi, we work to create a balance between old and new, privacy and congeniality. Please let us know where the problems were so we can correct them.

“Fabulous weekend at the Harry Packer Mansion in Jim Thorpe, PA.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011 via mobile

We had a really awesome weekend at the Harry Packer Mansion. The inn is beautiful, the food is delicious, the staff is friendly and there is a fun Murder Mystery. What more could you ask for??? If you're looking for a relaxing getaway in a romantic setting, this is the place. There is an adorable town filled with historic buildings, wonderful restaurants, shops and a train that takes you for a ride through the scenic countryside. Everything is within walking distance of the inn. We enjoyed it very much and can't wait to go back again!!!

“11/11/11 Murder Mystery Blast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

What a great time! This is our (Husband and myself) second murder mystery weekend at the Packer Mansion and we couldn't be happier! Bob, Pat, Taylor and Kristin are extremely friendly and hospitable. The mansion is just awesome! We were in Annie's Suite this year...absolutely beautiful, large and clean! I'm very impressed in how dedicated this family is to the house and its history, not to mention their guests! The breakfasts and dinner were lovely. Coffee and tea every morning served in the most beautiful room. The way the mystery is conducted is probably the most practical and least awkward way of doing it. There are 16 or more strangers in the room ( we were with 8 other couples this time) which is kinda uncomfortable initally so, having Bob (who by the way is great) guide us through is nice. By lunch on Saturday everyone is comfortable and relaxed (arrive on Friday evening, depart on Sunday morning) By Saturday night we usually have 4 more friends! Everyone is exchanging email addresses and adding new Facebook friends! This takes a great host!
We had a great time and want to come back for a 3rd year......time to start writing a new mystery Bob! Thanks guys!
