“Disgusting and Rude”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

I sure wish I would have read some of these reviews before I had booked at this b&b. A few of them sound like our exact experience, and I am not a snob. My boyfriend and I both called about reserving the room in advance and were quoted a price $15 cheaper than what she charged my credit card. All we did was ask about the price when we checked in and, for a tiny old lady, became very rude. She never offered an apology and had a very apparent attitude. She must have been confused about a lot of things when I called to make the initial reservation, because she also got my last name and arrival time wrong, on top of the price she lied to both of us about. We should have left and stayed somewhere off the highway right then. Every local we talked to in town had something bad to say about her. We dreaded any contact with her and avoided her during our stay. At another point during our stay, she gave us the third degree for stepping out to shop without telling her first. It makes you feel like you are a 13-year-old trapped at your mean grandma's house for the weekend.
She is presumably too old to clean, so whoever she hires to keep up does a very poor job. I found dead bugs in every corner and lubricant under the bed in the suite. Yes, lubricant. It looked like it had been there for a very, very long time. I just left it there, so my guess is that it is still there. Otherwise, the toilet and shower were a pain and the TV was so old it didn't even have a working remote. Not much of a suite. The only thing this place has going for it is a good location. This woman is too old and rude to manage a business.

“Please do not stay at this B&B”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

I don't usually write reviews but I feel that I should warn people about this place. I did read some reviews before we booked a room at this B&B and we had some reservation but it was one of the few place that was available. We always have to take other people's review with grain of salt but I have to agree with one of the reviewer. (Karen042267) We stayed at the Inn in August of 2011. The place is really run down and dirty. The curtains and the furnishings has not been changed in 4 decades, let alone cleaned. The whole place smells moldy and with a big dog that hangs around the house, it also smells like a wet dog. I love dogs and have no problem having dogs indoor, but place should not smell like a wet dog. They need to get rid of all their dirty curtains, rugs and furnishings and give it a good scrub to make the place smell clean and sanitary. We had a veranda attached to our room but the furniture and the surrounding is so dirty that we could not enjoy outdoor either. Aside from the condition of the place, the owner Louise is downright rude and unpleasant. She really should not be running a business if she is very sick. She should not be using sickness as an excuse for being ungracious to her guests. Please stay at other clean B&B when you visit Jim Thorpe. You will also have better entertainment. The TV at this Inn is 50 years old. It's black white with knob for control. The only positive aspect of this Inn was her part time helper Lynda. She was very helpful and made our stay bit more bearable.

“Thanks Louise, get well.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2011

Thanks Louise for the use of your B&B.
My wife Patti and I (Chris) pray that you are feeling better. We hope that the trip to the hospital today was nothing serious and that the Lord blesses you.
( I wonder if you believe in Christ? I pray that you do, I pray that you understand that we were all born sinners and need to be redeemed, and that Christ is the son of God and the only redeemer that we can believe in.
I tell you this because I know that you are up in years and had to make a hospital trip today well, none of us knows what tomorrow holds. I just pray that you understand that without Jesus Christ, you are lost and have no hope.
Call on Him today, He is just a prayer away.)

Also, thanks to your manager/helper, (forgot your name sweetie)
But you were so kind to us and we know that you would go out of your way to make any guest feel at home and have a better stay.
Thanks for the great breakfast and many blessings in Christ to you as well.
We have to teen girls, and they had a wonderful time on our little adventure there! They felt so special and grown up being served breakfast at the big dining room table and exporing the floor we were on with the sitting room and
all the little nooks!

(the outlet in the master room that we were in had an outlet that didnt work, you might want to take a look at that, the one that the tv is plugged into)
Otherwise, thanks for everything that the Lord bless you both.
Chris and Patti and the girls.

“Don't Waste Your Money”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2010

It started out bad when I called to confirm our reservation since we never received a conformation and the owner Louise was very rude when I asked about it since she said she was "sick" and couldn't go down stairs to check. First of all the place is really run down and the service poor. The first suite we where to stay in on the second floor had a strange gas odor to it and as we stayed in the room less than a 1/2 hr I started to have trouble breathing and my husband was getting a headache. When we went down to the first floor we realized it was the gas fireplace that was burning right up into the fireplace in our room. We told the owner that there is definitely something wrong with the room, she told us we were "crazy" because there was nothing wrong with the room. We exchanged rooms to a small little cottage that had mold on the walls covered with Victorian wall paper. Also you had to watch out for dog crap every time you walked to the back of the cottage room and didn't we both step in it. We also were charged the suite price of $130 a night even though we spent 2 nights in the cottage that is only $95. The upstairs’ suites are musty, run down and has very poor accommodations.....the TV has to be at least 25 yrs old or older and it's maybe a 13". We call the two rooms we stayed in "the Gas Chamber" and the "Mold" room. If you have allergies like I do, it isn't worth spending a lot of money just to be miserable in a rundown B & B that probably was nice at one time but isn't now!

“Cozy and comfy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2010

We stayed at the VictoriAnn Oct 15-17 and, like the previous reviewer, were surprised by the negative reviews. However, I have never been one to believe everything I read so we arrived at our destination optimistic. We really enjoyed our stay with Louise Ogilvie. I found her to be quite intelligent and interesting and she couldn't have been more accomodating. We enjoyed the privacy and coziness of our little "cottage." Yes, it was small, but we had been told that there was really just enough room for the bed so we expected tight quarters. We had a split bath and private oustside entrance with lots of windows overlooking the garden. We even had a safe place to put our bikes. We found our breakfast to be outstanding - not just run of the mill.

It was fall festival weekend and there was lots to do. We love Jim Thorpe
