What a unique experience, to sleep underground in a cave! The owners have done a fantastic job of converting their warren underground mining tunnels into a series of comfortable, cave rooms. They finished the inside walls with plaster with keeps the dust down, levelled the floors and installed skylights in some of the rooms. It is like a maze. The decor is really quite fun, because there are some displays of old things found in the mines here, and windows that link into the opal mine surrouding you, and there is a beautiful jacuzzi atrium (but wasn't functional while we were there).
There is a tour of the house and the mine included with your night's stay, which is a definite must-do. While we were there, the owners were on holiday and had a couple who were caretaking. Anyway, this couple was great! The gentleman was a history buff, and he hosted the tour very knowledgably, and his wife was very hospitable and friendly.
The breakfast was quite simple, only toast and cereal, and you were expected to wash up. Internet access is available on their computer at $3 for 10 minutes. There are no other amenities such as TVs.
One small note -- We don't think that any of the rooms have ensuites -- so they are all shared bathrooms. (I'm sure it's difficult to get plumbing into a cave). But the bathrooms are nicely done, clean, and spacious.
