“Very disappointing drop in standards”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

I have stayed at this resort 6 times over the last few years - the experience has always been so good that an annual weekend here had become part of life for my husband and I. However, two weeks ago we had a VERY disappointing weekend here with friend of ours. After raving about it for years we convinced 2 friends of ours to come up for a couples weekend away. The popularity of the resort meant that we had to book months and months in advance, so we booked in October last year for a February stay. I knew exactly what rooms I wanted (having stayed so many times before) so we played around with dates so that I could book a weekend where we could have two studio rooms next to each other, upstairs overlooking the pool.

However, when we arrived on Friday February 3rd I was given two keys for two hotel rooms. When I complained that this wasn't the rooms that I had booked I was told that the hotel was full and there was nothing they could do. I was given no apology or sympathy from either of the two staff working on the check-in desk and simply told that they'd check in the morning if there was any rooms vacant in the area I had requested. The rooms were fine, but they were not the rooms we had booked - much less privacy and a different outlook. The hotel rooms have no privacy as the balcony area is connected to the path, so people walk past your room all day on the way to the pool. Disappointingly, we were not contacted on the Saturday about whether any of the upstairs studio rooms were available.

The service at the hotel has dropped drastically since we were last there in 2010. The pool was dirty and not kept to the usual immaculate standard. We had to ask at the reception desk for soap for our room. The fantastic Italian restaurant has been replaced with a terrible little bar which was empty the entire time and at one point had live music that was very average. The hotel staff were unfriendly (with the exception of one waitress who was lovely & a pleasure to deal with on both evenings). One of the best things about staying here for us has been the excellent service, warm & welcoming environment, clean facilities & great food. Disappointingly I saw none of this on our recent trip.

To cap things off, we had noise complaints from the reception desk on both nights at 11pm. Both nights we were in one of the hotel rooms playing cards. There was only 4 of us and we had no music on. Given that both couples live in apartments, we are well accustomed to keeping the noise down to a suitable level. We were simply sitting around playing cards - we were not yelling or blaring music, dancing or bumping furniture around, but just having a conversation. The complaints put a dampener on both evenings, and the weekend in general. The irony is that if we had been given the rooms we booked, noise would not have been an issue as the rooms are more spread out.

Overall I cannot stress enough how disappointed I am with this resort and the lack of customer service. I will not be staying here again - which is a shame as were considering staying here for a family reunion with 30+ people. Some other hotel will now get this booking.

Room Tip: Ask for a swimout if you can - but make sure you actually get it when you check-in!

“Disapointing”

Touring Australia, we had booked a studio room through our travel agent. The person at the reception was very cold and showed no real concern for guests. When we opened the door, the room looked nice, modern and clean but when we tried to live in it, it proved to be small and unpractical. I could not even go in the shower and close its door no matter how I tried. I asked to use the wifi. It only worked in the reception area and cost AUD 5 for half an hour ! In 2012 nobody can live without internet. It's a necessity like water or electricity. Have you ever seen a hotel charging for water or electricity ?
Trying to understand why we got so little for so much, I later went to the internet site of the Oaks Group which sells these units to private investors and read the following :

"With a focus on investor returns The Oaks Group have consistently deliver a premium return to investors: not just short-term gains but solid financial returns over the long-term."

That was the answer to my questions.

Room Tip: We were proposed a garden view studio. What a joke ! There were two small trees in front the room (n...

“Brilliant pool, a little noisy though”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

The hotel actually consists of a large number of apartments surrounding a beautiful lagoon pool which loops the entire resort. The pool, although only 0.9m deep, is great for a relaxing swim. There are plenty of day beds and 2 spas, as well as some shallow areas for little children.

We found the room quite comfortable, staying in a studio swimout, and the bed was very comfortable. The ability to swim out of the room/verandah is quite unique. We did not eat at the restaurant or use any of the other facilities at the hotel.

The room was starting to look a little tired, but the resort has been there for a while so this is to be expected. The room was not serviced until late in the afternoon, which was a little annoying as we had been out all morning, so told the cleaners to not worry about it.

Probably the major thing I would say about this place is that if you want a more private hotel, with peace and quiet, then this is not the place for you. The rooms all face each other, and look into each other, and there are quite a lot of families with kids there. For example, we were woken up around 7:30 on Sunday morning, with a group of kids swimming past our room making a bit of noise. For families though, this place would be excellent.

I have found that the hotel is often booked out, so book in advance to get the best rate, as the rates can be expensive at short notice, which perhaps would not be worth paying. We paid about $230 a night, which I thought was reasonable, perhaps a little on the expensive side.

We will definitely return as the pool is worth the visit.

Room Tip: Choose a swim out room to get the best access to the pool.

“Grand and comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

This is the best voted accomodation for my husband and my daughters. The suite room comes with a master bedroom a hall which has a double sofa-bed for my two girls. Self-help pantry comes with microwave, toaster as well. My girls just love the BIGGG bathroom. Me and my two girls dipped into our bathroom jarcuzzi to relax. There is supermarket nearby and shops too. The area that needs improvement would be the reception staff. They dont seems to know about our booking, and waiting time to sort things out also long.

“"Mmmm"”

We stayed at this resort for a few days midweek. Unfortunately, being within a school holiday period our options were limited and this was one of the only places that allowed short stays.
Most wanted 5 or more days stay. We also booked through one of those last minute websites so when we secured a hotel room on the days required we thought we were quite lucky.
How wrong were we.

Firstly, we arrived about 20 minutes prior to check-in and were told to come back. I know we were a bit early but surely they could have checked the room allocated to us in case it was ready. After a long drive the welcome left a lot to be desired.

Our hotel room was just off the reception area with views to the carpark and right near where cars stop to check-in. So close you could touch them. Most of the other hotel rooms on the carpark side had wooden screens and plants to provide 'some' privacy from the carpark and peering eyes, but not ours. Why??? Made the balcony useless.

Arrived to a very clean room, a nice little set-up for 2 people but the actual room location played heavy on me. Having to chase up a remote control for the tv mounted on the wall was also annoying. The little kitchennette was nice but to not have drinking water in the small bar fridge was also annoying.

If I were to stay here again i would definitely not stay in the 'hotel rooms' but in the rooms around the pool. Especially the 'swim in' suites.

This resort seemed more like a place for families. Kids would love the wrap around pool and an ideal place for groups of friends. Having a restaurant/cafe/bar on grounds was great although we only utilised it on our last day. Very enjoyable having cocktails around the pool at twilight. The resort grounds were immaculate and the pool area very inviting.

For other food/drink options, check out the Salamandar Tavern about a 10 minute walk from the resort. Really terrific bistro, especially the chicken schnitzel special on wednesday nights. Very popular with locals and visitors.

Room Tip: If booking one of the hotel rooms, make sure you get one on the left-side of the corridor away from...
