“"Terrific room & close to everything"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2011

Driving back from Melbourne just after New Year, we had pre-booked 2 days at the Whale Motor Inn as Narooma was suggested as a good stopover. We weren't disappointed. Our room on the 2nd level was and executive suite and was a very good choice. Newly renovated, it had a spacious hallway off of which was a decent bathroom with hairdryer and a separate bedroom which was spacious and had good hanging space and a decent make-up table & mirror which is sadly lacking in most establishments. At the end of the hass was a large lounge room with 3 + 2 seater black leather sofas, coffee table, dining table & chairs for 2, a writing desk and chair, and a small kitchenette which was nicely appointed. A flat screen TV & free internet was appreciated by us. A decent balcony with outdoor setting provided welcome sun & shade when needed and had a view over the waterways and beach.

A pool was located near this unit and there was some noise during the day, but it did not bother us as the nights were quiet. A very good restaurant and bar is located on site.

Beware the French restaurant across the road, not good value at all, but head on down to the cheap and cheerful Taylors on Riverside Drive for fish and chips overlooking the water. BYO and no charge!

“Excellent Food, Average Accommodation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2010

Our room was comfortable and clean - not fantastic, but average and decent enough for our requirements. Staff were nice and friendly. In our booking we requested a cot be set up in our room on arrival however we were disappointed it wasn't there when we arrived and never arrived during our stay, so baby slept in bed with us.

My main memory though of this hotel will always be the DINNER we had at the hotel's restaurant which was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I haven't looked into whether the chef at this hotel is famous or not (he must be), but he is obviously well travelled, extensively experienced, and extremely gifted. All we did was scoff and 'mmmm' , and there was not a smidgen of food (inc sauce) left on our plates by the end of it. The food prepared for us was up there with what we had at Marque in Sydney (3 hats) - and was definately one of the best feeds we have had in our lives.

“Love free Internet”

The rooms are a bit old feeling inside but everything seemed to work fine. No frills, just the standard. Quiet. Loved the free internet cable connection in the room. Strongly recommend the hotel just for this fact. I wish all hotels did this and advertised it. They will get my biz any day!
Also nice restaurant attached and friendly staff that called to confirm that we were coming and made sure we were on a boat trip to Montague Island the next day. Very nice.

“Great coastal motel with superb restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2010

We have stayed at this motel on at least 8 occasions over the past 7 years. During those visits we have stayed in almost all styles of rooms from the unrenovated deluxe rooms, the renovated premier rooms and the renovated deluxe suite. In terms of views to the inlet and the ocean all rooms offer a view although I believe the deluxe suite offered the best view, just spectacular! All rooms are clean and well stocked, the only downside with the deluxe suite was the lack of tv in the bedroom. The premier rooms and the deluxe suite are both nicely renovated in a smart modern style.
The restaurant at this motel is excellent and can't be faulted. It is often hard to find a decent restuarant on the far south coast but this one is fantastic....food is beautifully prepared and presented and the wine list is very good ..home made icecream is a treat as well. We have also experienced the room service and had a great burger but if you wanted to order from the standard restaurant menu you could! All in all a lovely little coastal motel with the added touch of a great restaurant. Free internet and austar are included in the room rate.

“Two Words: Love It !!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010

>>Reception
Although we only booked for a one night stay at this hotel, the experiences we had there were unforgettable. Upon entering the reception i noticed there was alot of effort put into the choice of decor down to the finest detail - this realisation came to me as i noticed a cute whale that was attached along with the keys to our room.

>>Room
We booked for a Premier room for our stay. The place was clean- with no unpleasant odours and was very cosy. Toiletries were also supplied (shampoo, conditioner, body wash) as well as very plush towels. Everything was kept very well and the place was very tidy. The bed is amazingly soft and very comfortable and came with an electric blanket. The location of the room was also very good - we had an unobstructed waterview from our balcony.

>>Restaurant
I could say that the quality and pricing of the food was very decent (I would highly recommend the five spiced south coast duck as well as the whale tasting plate for others to try). We had to wait a little longer than usual for the food to come out but it was worth it.
