“A modern, comfortable haven after a long journey.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 February 2011

The owners of the motel were very kind and helpful. We arrived and needed to wash some items. They took them away and delivered them to us within the hour, then didn't charge us. They were also very helpful when I booked by phone as I was unable to book over the internet. They were in the process of doing up the rooms. The main room was newly furnished with modern matching furniture. There was a microwave for us to heat up some food rather than looking for a restaurant. The bathroom was spotless even though it was old. They are obviously putting their heart and soul into making this a lovely motel for travellers. We would definitely stay again on our next journey through to Sydney.

“Worst place i have ever stayed in”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 April 2010

I don't know if i got given the worst room because i booked over the internet but this room was disgusting. The only reason i didn't leave was we arrived after a long day of travelling and the staff were really nice. The room looked nothing like the pictures on the internet. If you have to stay avoid room 17. The bathroom had mould growing on the basin and in the shower, the towel rack was broken in half with no light cover on the light. Two different coloured bulbs were used so it gave the illusion of a public bathroom. The smoke alarm was ripped off the roof. The colour of the furniture was the horrible pink form the 80's so i can clearly say that it had not been renovated. The walls were so thin that we got no sleep. The TV had to be retuned. The blinds on the front window were broken so not only did we have to sleep on the bed facing the window but the street lights lit up our room for all other guests to see. The room was dirty and after walking on the carpet for 2 minutes my bare feet were black, my girlfriend then asked do you think i should wear my shoes in the shower. (very dirty)

We then ordered breakfast and it was very over priced. It was 20mins late which isn't a big deal but after the night we had and needing to get back on the road for a long days travel i was not impressed.

I booked this hotel as we wanted a nice place and it was priced middle of the range. If i was offered a free night i would not return.

After reading the other reviews i am unsure if they are talking about the same place. I do not usually complain about hotels as i work in one in Canberra but wow this place was terrible.

Thankyou for your comment regarding your recent stay at the motel. It is nice to hear how our guests feel about the property although we would prefer to hear from them directly and not through an anonymous third party website.

Your comments have been noted and a look at them will show that most of them could have been addressed during your stay which would have hopefully improved your experience.

I am disappointed that you would class the room as disgusting. Whereas the room is not our newest, it is far from substandard. The carpets just that week were professionally cleaned so I would check the interior of your shoes before blaming the carpet for your dirty feet.

I would like some advice on the street light that kept you awake as the light would have to travel through our neighbours house to shine in your eyes. Your room was at the back of the property and a long way away from the street.

You commented that breakfast was overpriced. I do not class $3.00 for a pot of hot chocolate and $10.00 for Baked Beans on toast with Bacon and Tomato as expensive. If you thought this, why did you order it. Breakfast was 10 minutes late, not 20 - a fact that I appologised for when delivering to your room. It is difficult to deliver multiple breakfasts fresh all at the same time. If you had an early start, might I suggest next time you order delivery for an earlier time slot.

The bathroom does require some maintenance, however I can assure you that it is clean. The "mould" that you are referring to is actually Verdigris (Google it) and while it may not be aesthetically pleasing, there is certainly no health issues with it.

The light cover and towel rail are indeed broken as a result of some undesirable guests and we are waiting on a back order from our supplier to remedy the problem.

The two different bulbs are actually two different types of lights. One is a bulb with an energy efficient globe and the other is a fluorescent strip light over the mirror. Being of different configurations, I am unsure of how to make the lights glow the same. Maybe it is something Thomas Edison could have thought of when he invented the light bulb??

As a property owner, we try our best to give good service and value for money. It is disappointing when people leave us and write anonymous comments on travel websites.

We welcome constuctive feedback, but in the interests of fairness, please ensure the accuracy of your comments.

“Great location to explore Lake Macquarie”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2010

Very good central location if you want to explore the Lake Macquarie area. Close to several beaches & some great spots on the lake. Not far to Swansea or Belmont if you require anything from the shops & a fairly quick trip into Charlestown or Kotara shopping centres. There are also several great spots to eat such as the Gunyah Hotel & Salina close by.
The room was very clean & tidy as was the whole motel complex. The owners were always on hand to offer advice on the area or answer any other concern/question you may have. Although close to the Pacific Highway there was very little to no noise at all from the traffic heard in our room.
In short a very nice 3.5 star motel in a great location with very helpful & accommodating hosts.

“Great location and price. Bathrooms need refurbishing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2009

Worried about your alarm clock not working and sleeping past the check out time? Don't.

In all of my years travelling and staying at different motels/hotel/B'n'B's around the world, I have NEVER seen or heard anything like this. At 9.30am, thirty minutes prior to checkout time, the owner had his leaf blower all rev'd up outside each of the rooms as he walked along as we listened to him mutter to himself that it was a waste of time because of the parked cars. If I could have made myself heard he would have heard me say 'Mate, these are your clients cars and some of them AREN'T checking out today.'

At approximately, 9.45am we saw and heard the owner pounding on the door of one of the rooms, yelling '10am is the checkout time'. I am sure the occupants appreciated the reminder.

The room was reasonably spacious and clean but the bathroom of the room we stayed in, is in some urgent need of refurbishing. The bed was comfortable even though there were springs hanging out one side and the wooden bed frame caused a few bruises on knees etc. All of the rooms are set back from the Pacific Highway and there isn't much traffic noise. The TV reception was not the best with some of the stations fading in and out. Perhaps that is normal in that part of Belmont.? And only 'free to air' channels are available.

The motel is conveniently located within a short travelling distance from the various beaches and is reasonably priced. Would we stay there again? Probably not.

Thankyou for your comments relating to your stay. We always appreciate feedback even if the comments aren’t as positive as we would like as it lets us know how we are performing and in which areas we can improve. I have addressed some of your concerns below.

With regards to the TV reception, we have checked and found that all channels in all rooms are present and correctly tuned including the Foxtel channels. If you saw my Foxtel bill each month, you would understand that I would be concerned and would also want to be informed if there was a problem. During the check-in process, we specifically encourage guests to contact reception if they have any needs or concerns so we can address them during your stay.

We take onboard your comments with regards to the checkout time. As a motel owner and operator, no matter what we do always seems to be wrong when it comes to check-in and checkout times. A guest that sleeps in is usually upset when we apply a late checkout fee to the bill but is happy for us to pay Room Attendants to wait for them to go.

I apologise for the blower noise, but I am sure you can understand that being Christmas Eve that we would want the property to be presented at its best for the guest arrivals which are always prior to the published check-in times.

It is always hard to address concerns of Guests when they choose the anonymous forum of a website to air a grievance after their stay. Could I please ask that next time something is not to your satisfaction that you at least contact whichever property it is and give them a chance to fix whatever is wrong.

Lastly, can you please contact us, even by anonymous phone call and let us know which bed has the exposed springs. A safety issue such as this is very important to us and we have checked all mattresses and are unable to find any defects.

Thankyou again for your comments. We urge you to return to our property so you can hopefully leave next time feeling better about your stay.

Kind regards,
Jane.

“Superb Hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 May 2009

We were here on a stopover enroute to Sydney, and it didn't disappoint! Rooms look really new (could have been newly refurbished ^^), beds were firm and the comforter was oh so fluffy and comfortable (parents snored through the nite!). There's a wonderful restaurant near by the Pelicans, Milanos on the Lake, which serves super fresh seafood! Order one day in advance for the Seafood Platter for two or three pax though ;)
