“Okay for a short stay”

My husband and I have just returned home after a long weekend stay (Friday to Monday). The stay was pleasant enough, but we only used the hotel as a base. The staff at the hotel are friendly and welcoming, and happy to help in any way they can. We arrived late on the Friday evening, was shown to our room, which was very old fashioned and basic, and as it was dark we couldn't see the view from the window. However, the following morning, we could and what a disappointment, we had no view, only the roof of an outbuilding. The weather wasn't good, we did travel down to the Eden Project and found a nice pub (Britannia) who do lovely food at reasonable prices. I did find the food at the hotel a bit overpriced, but the takeaway menu is handy if you want something later on in the evening.
We had booked our CLC meeting for the Monday morning 9.15am, we had a very pleasant salesman, called Keith, he introduced himself to us and took us in for our complimentary breakfast, and then onto one of the luxury lodges, which I have to say are gorgeous, they have all the facilities you would need on holiday, especially for a family or a few couples. We were then taken back to the hotel and downstairs into the CLC Centre, we were offered a hot or cold drink and introduced to another salesman called Ben. Have to say both Keith and Ben were very nice, theyre there to sell their product, its a job the same as anyone elses, we were under no obligation to buy, even though I can honestly say I was tempted with the offer, but felt that I didn't want to commit to anything on paper. The sales pitch went on for 3 hours and I was wondering if we would ever beat the traffic home, but once i'd made my mind up and said No, they accepted this, we all shook hands and was shown back to the entrance of the hotel. So even though we had poor weather and had to sit through 3 hours of sales pitch I can say the trip was a nice break. But, I wouldnt go back.

Room Tip: A car is a must, and we would have been lost without our Sat Nav

“Stay away!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

The hotel belongs to super dodgy club la costa ( the etymology of name of the club? Cost (a).

Hall smells of cheap international travellers hostel, plastic chandeliers, super tired rooms ( they simply couldn't decide where to hang pictures...). we thought, that we could put up with it as it wasn't expensive, but then the price that we got to pay appeared quite high in fact.

Sale pitch made me so angry ( how bloody dare they " offer" me to pay them a fortune and commit myself to a lifetime maintenance fee for absolutely nothing in return!, salesman, chav, wasted valuable 3 hours of my time, and it wasn't a case of simply saying "no", as took it several times telling them what we'd rather do(horrible things by the way), that decided to leave early.

Room Tip: Just don't go, save and choose local bnb.

“Not worth it and very Forceful Club la Costa Staff”

O.K. So we got a week for approx £100-ish as per the CLaCosta promotion. PLace is NOT well signposted and the lodge we stayed in was very average and NOT up to standard.Main bed and kiddies beds were very uncomfortable. Floor boards wooden and creak like a horror movie.Worst of all was extremely forceful and "threatening" manner of CLC manager. Our babies nappy was messed and he fell asleep but they WOULD NOT let us see to him and continued SELLING us the whole CLC shpiel. What a horrible terrible stay...NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

Room Tip: Only member chalets are worth it and DONE UP and Cosy. Others are a waste

“Perfect for Relaxing with Friends”

We booked a double lodge for 2 couples. The standard was excellent and the lodge was beautifully furnished. The kitchen was to a high standard as were the bathrooms. We had a hot tub outside on the decking; very welcome on a chilling November night.

The Spa was excellent and a convenient walk from our lodge.

This a great location for a self catering break. The Manor itself is well appointed and welcoming and there are restaurants and bars if that's what you want. We loved it

“Great Value If You Survive The Sales Pitch!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011 via mobile

We've just returned from a 3 night break, as part of the Club La Costa sales/marketing offer. To receive the substantially reduced rate, you have to attend a sales pitch of approx 3 hours (incl a free breakfast or tea).

The pitch wasn't heavy and it's obviously an individual choice on whether you proceed. My basic maths told me that for the cost of a trial period (3years) and receiving 6 weeks accommodation, I could find far better value in the current competitive open Market (albeit the standard of accommodation offered worldwide was extremely high).

Although we declined, the staff the friendly enough for the rest of the break!

In summary; it's excellent value for money for the break if you can endure the pitch, the staff and facilities are good, food and drinks well priced and the location great. The Manor is isolated and a car is essential to explore the surrounding area.

Tip: Ask for a Lodge, the facilities are superb. Also, you can request when to have the 'Pitch' choose a time and date to suit yourselves.
