“A great B&B with a really friendly atmosphere.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

Stayed here for 3 nights with my girlfriend for a short break down by the sea. Booking online was easy and we already had an idea of what the place was like because of their impressive website.

We got there late in the afternoon and were shown to our room by the friendly owner, Milton. The room itself was big, clean, and had tea and coffee facilities (a nice touch was the 2 chocolate bars on top of the tea cups). There was a big shower in the bathroom which was very clean, a large bed/sofa and a big, comfortable double bed.

Breakfast in the morning was held in the large kitchen/diner which was a pleasent place to eat. Your choice of cereal, yogurt and fruit juice was on offer. You could also have an English breakfast made to order and cooked in the same room, a lovely touch! We had a good few chats with Milton during breakfast and he gave us some great tips about the places we were visiting and some ideas about other things to do and places to eat.

In Torpoint itself there are shops and pubs very near by. You can also easily get the ferry (which runs all night) over to Plymouth for a wider choice of places to drink and eat.

As for other things to do, we visited the Eden Project, the National Trust house where Tim Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland' was shot, Whitsand Bay beach, and a small village called Kingsand (which we highly recommend). All were excellent and close enough for a short car journey.

Overall we had a lovely stay at Cambridge House and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable stay near Cornwall or Plymouth.

“friendly owners and extremely clean premises”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2010

we were bringing our daughter back to Plymouth uni and the whole of Plymouth was booked up so we were a little apprehensive about our location when booking and there was only a room with twin beds that was still available, but all doubts had disappeared after our first nights stay. Comfy beds, spotlessly clean, lovely ensuite. It was slightly awkward to make the coffee in the corner of the room and I did need to find the extension lead beneath the bed to be able to plug the hairdryer in, but that shouldn't put anyone off. Milton and Sarah were friendly hosts and Miltons breakfast are delicious. They do like to agree a time for you to come down for your breakfast, between 7.30 and 9am, so that everyone doesn't turn up at the same time. Parking is on the street, but this was never a problem

Milton is full of interesting information about the area. There is a pleasant walk along the river not far from the premises and a lovely drive along the coast at Whitsand Bay. It is easy to get over to Plymouth on the ferry, by car, foot , bus or bicycle (pay £1.50 for a car to go into Plymouth, but free into Torpoint). In Plymouth visit the Barbican and the Hoe. Near the aquarium there is the cinema, Nandos, Frankies and Bennies, there is also a nice shopping centre at Drakes Circus. There are places to eat in Torpoint.

“Good choice for a cheap but very pleasant stay in the area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2010

My girlfriend and I stayed here for one night whilst checking out nearby Polhawn Fort as a potential wedding venue.

The room we had on the very top floor was in good condition, very clean, the owner is a really nice chap and cooked us a decent breakfast.

Can't really fault the place, for what we paid it was a nice stay, well run and great value. Exactly what a B&B should be.

“Friendly, comfortable, clean, FABULOUS!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 June 2010

We stayed here for one night for our son's passing out parade at HMS Raleigh. A super little gem of a place. My parents (in their 70's) had a lovely room on the first floor, and we had a fantastic room on the 2nd floor with lovely views of the Tamar where we could see lots of ships and boats coming up and down the river. The beds were extremely comfortable, the rooms had excellent facilities (plenty of teas, coffees and milk/cream), flat screen TV, radio alarm, lots of nice 'things' in the bathroom...We were given our own front door keys, with no horrible restrictions on coming or going.. The breakfast was superb, all freshly cooked to order with ample tea, coffee, juice, toast, cereal.. In all this is a fantastic place to stay, and if you are going for the passing out parade then stay here, it's on the right side of the Tamar and less than 5 minutes to Raleigh by car...Thank you to all at this great place!!!
