We had been here before a few years ago and had a pleasant time apart from the party and very loud Led Zeppelin type live band that they didn't warn us about when we booked, but which we eventually decided to join in with and had a good time! I checked this time and we had a wonderful , peaceful stay. Charlestown is on the edge of St Austell but is a world away, having a picturesque harbour, complete with square rigged sailing boats and a small beach with access to the coast path and cliffs for a bracing walk. You might need that to walk off the excellent evening meals and breakfasts provided. It may not be Michelin standard but it is more varied and interesting than the usual pub food, with good portions and excellent value. The decor includes lots of nautical references in a modern setting, which works surprisingly well.
We stayed in one of the rooms (called 'Gig') which was very spacious for two( having a sofa and en suite with bath), very comfortable bed, and good facilities.
The staff were all helpful and friendly and we will certainly come again. We might even aim for their next live band event!
