My boyfriend paid for a one night break to celebrate my birthday as a surprise treat. When we arrived at reception there was no one to greet us and we had to use the phone to summond assistance. As we checked in the receptionist told us that no evening meal was available that night as the chef had the night off. We had travelled over 100 miles to be there and had to go into St. Austell in the end to find food !
The receptionist then proceeded to try and find our room, a difficult feat as it was only his second day in the job ! We trekked through most of the very steep garden trying to find it ( past a very dirty, empty outside swimming pool ) to the very edge of the garden. Room was pleasant enough, clean and tidy and so was bathroom. Not such great views....overlooking a hedge and a storage shed with outdoor funiture overflowing from it !
After eating out in St. Austell we came back tired and ready for bed, pulled back the covers and well.........the sheets ! What can I say except they were so hard and stiff it was like sleeping between sandpaper ! the pillowcase was just as bad. I have been a housekeeping manager for 12 years and I have never seen anything like it....... They could have stood up on their own ! It wasnt a pleasant sleeping experience.
Breakfast was very nice and catered for my vegetarian needs.
Overall, pretty disappointing stay and wouldnt return.
