“Nice service, shame about the food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

Myself and my boyfriend ate here, and while the service was lovely and very attentive, I cant say the same about all the food. Prawns to start were very tasty, but the tuna we had as a main was completely overcooked...still quite nice flavour in the sauce tho, so we let it slide. We finished off with desserts, one of which was obviously a bought in/allow to defrost before serving generic chocolate fudge cake. The date and walnut pudding (descibed to us as a sticky toffee pudding) was either overcooked or over microwaved as it was so tough we could barely get our spoons into it...so we didn't eat more than a spoonful each to try it. We thought it better to tell the waitress about this, and while she dealt with the complaint, ensuring the kitchen would know of the problem, it remained on the bill.

“Laid back Hotel with a fantastic view”

Right in the beach. Laid back atmosphere. Yes it's a little tired in places but what hotel isn't. Staff very friendly and the manager buzzes around the place she can't be more helpful. Only downside is the surf school in the car park. Car very full most of the time due to surf school clients, surf boards all over the place. I even had them
Leaning against my car on one occasion. Overall a good holiday

Rooms with sea views are fabulous value for money. Breathtaking location, delicious breakfast and nothing is too much trouble. Really enjoyed our stay and will definitely go back.

“Seiners Arms - rooms in need of refurbishment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011

Note - this is my 7th different hotel review since Sept 2006 so you can be assured that this is a genuine review. I hope this is of help in choosing your perfect holiday.

Perranporth is a GREAT place to stay on holiday – a fantastic little village with the most amazing beach. We had a great holiday, but the Seiners Arms did not live up to our expectations.

Good Points:

Breakfast – we always looked forward to this…lots on the menu and really tasty. Really good, warm service.

Location and views – really amazing.

Entertainment – Seiners is also a bar and has a number of entertainment events on during the week (including pub quiz and live music). We (surprisingly!) really enjoyed the Cornish live music but did not appreciate very clearly hearing “question 17….question 18” from our bedroom. The good news is that the entertainment finished at about 23:00 so not unreasonable.

Bad Points:

Hotel rooms – Very dated and in desperate need of refurbishment (which I believe has been completed for a number of rooms). Similar to other recent posts we were very dissatisfied with the original room that we were allocated – the bathroom was in desperate need of repair and the general state of the room was very basic. We did move to a refurbished room and were a lot happier with the standards, especially the bathroom. In both rooms the walls are thin so you can hear your neighbours TV, opening/closing furniture etc. The curtains are not lined so the sun streams into your bedroom in the early hours, so in addition to the noise from your neighbour you’ve not much chance of a long lie! Our refurbished room had a small ‘shower room’. If you were tall like myself then you had to develop a technique to squeeze onto the toilet seat without banging your knees on the shower (so not ideal for less able-bodied people). The mattress in the unfurnished room was also very soft.

Bar meal – we had a bar meal on the night of arrival. I ordered a fish special and it was luke-warm and undercooked. This dish was replaced but it was a very disappointing experience and start to our holiday. We did not eat in the bar or restaurant after that point as there are plenty of other restaurants in the area (we REALLY enjoyed the Smugglers Den…recommend you check it out!). We’ve eaten in The Rocks during previous holidays and really enjoyed our meals so perhaps this was just a one-off.

Car Park – I think there are slightly more hotel rooms than spaces so you are not guaranteed a space. We had to park in the public car park just outside the hotel (£4 a day so not too bad) on a couple of nights which was small inconvenience, more a concern that you don’t have the same peace that your car is parked safely.

Top tips – check out Perranporth golf club (designed by one of the best and rated ~#53 in a recent survey in Britain!). Pirran Surf was a great place for lessons and to hire surf gear. Smugglers Den is worth a trip (or two) for food!

Overall my advice is to check to see whether your room has been refurbished before booking…

Room Tip: Request a refurbished room, not on the ground floor.

“Shocking but perfect all the same”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Website lied badly, smell in hallway barbaric, bed was horrible and painful, room clean but in shocking repair, man on reception RUDE. Ladies in pub and restaurant were wonderful, very friendly and the view was simply to die for, being woken up at 430am but the sea roaring at the front door was the best experience of my life!!! Steak very very very over priced in the restaurant everything else not. Funny balance- Hotel standards appalling but with a deep clean new carpet and some paint from top to toe it would be fab...........Best weekend had in a long time just a shame the hotel wasnt wat the website said!!!!!

Room Tip: Take a sleeping bag and sleep on the floor
